is it okay to sell the car with dpf deleted?

The gutting process would seem straightforward. Anything to watch out for?

Not unless your buyer agrees and wants it that way. I'd disclose it in writing and have him/her sign that.

Sell it to someone in a diesel non-emission state and explain the benefits. Like tds said though, get them to sign a statement that they know it has been done. I'm sure that if you were ready to sell, someone in this group would know someone that wanted it.

SCR delete

I guess it's time for an update. After driving on a HPDE event I noticed excessive smoke on full throttle runs. My conclusion was that my SCR now started to clog up and restricted the exhaust gas flow. Time to get rid of the internals.
I transported the full exhaust with a Flex to my friend Matt who was able to weld it back together with a stainless steel welder. He wasn't all too pleased with his work, so I'm not posting the finished work but I think it looks perfect.
The process is quite simple. Uninstall the exhaust, cut open the upper side of the the SCR with a side grinder, bash and remove the SCR material, vacuum the remains and weld shut again.
The sound is now much throatier and the turbo whistle is quite pronounced. As Persian Whisperjet noted, the smell is a bit different now. A little bit more like the old diesels, but still not very pleasant. At least not with MI diesel.

I use the recirculation on airflow to minimize the odor to more fully enjoy the turbo whistle and more grunt

Looks good. Question, if one preferred not to have increased whistle, is there something else we could have welded in to keep the car more stealth and or maybe keep the odor down?

Bob, by any chance did you do dyno tests with the catted downpipe? I'm curious as to any differences from an open one....

You think that front wheel is bad? You should see the rear quarter panel and rim on the same side.. Don't even want to show you the lower control arm..

Jup. That's gonna happen next. Will report back with subjective measures of improvement.

That would be appreciated. Think there are several of us who have considered this but were concerned about sufficient EGT's to get good conversion... I'd be interested in seeing some EGT vs "smell" data. But I'm not quite sure how that would be done. Do you have a wife you could strap to the bumper area for some real time feedback?

If this isn't any trouble, EGT temps under high load are only part of the story. I think TDI was interested (and me too) in EGT data when engine wasn't under much load. In other words, what EGT at idle or when just cruising at 1500 rpm? We are hoping EGT is warm enough there to get scrubbing in normal driving conditions too. We all smell stink parked in driveway or at traffic lights.

I would have to say that my only complaint (and complaints from the family) are about the more pronounced smell after the delete. I am interested in a fix.

Cool.

BB_Cuda is right about my interest. I typically cruise at 55-60 with EGT's barely above 400F, and it's lower in town traffic or at idle. That's the main scenario I'm interested in. 350-400F seems low compared to graphs of converter lightoff temps I've seen.

This is one of the things that drove me crazy about tuning gas engines. I could get the engines to run smoothly at AFR of 16:1, but the catalytic converters needed below 14.7 to work their best at idle. Burning more fuel to save the environment just never sat right with me.

+1. Burning more fuel for lower emissions somehow shouldn't be the answer.
