Gotcha. Luckily I don't need to worry about the last part, 27 and HAPPILY single . Did a 991 GT3 ever cross your mind? Seems like you had the funds, always curious what people's thought process is when purchasing a car. The msrp on the 991 turbo s is just getting out of hand in my opinion. For less than 20k more you can get into a brand new mclaren.

I just turned 27 lol

I was actually looking at the normal 911 Turbo because the Turbo S was WAY over priced, the dealer was marking it up to 195k by me lol. I thought about the GT3 but they were impossible to find for me to test drive and the dealer over here wanted to charge me to bring one to their showroom to test drive.

When I see people with that budget who do not get a 991 or 997 GT3, they attribute it to the car being too raw for what they are looking for.

Personally, that is what would attract me most, but I guess some others want a more comfortable, pleasant ride.

Get a 991 GT3 and a used M3 - patios are overrated haha

I can't believe people spent so much time comparing the M3 to the 911. Personally, they seem like different cars to me. Kind of like how people compared the Honda Civic Type R to the M3 and it spawned over 10 pages of blah blah blah.

There are things about cars that will make people purchase one over the other. If you have to spend 10 pages asking them, you just don't understand.

I had a friend who loved EVOs. He would read all about them while they were still in Japan. When they finally came to America and he wanted to go and get one, he ended up with an STI because it had cruise control.

PoorLurker, I agree with you man...I like comfort but would rather have something that is performance oriented, it's all about function for me.

991 GT3 and an M3 would be nice...if only i was a saudi prince or something lol.

PS: Evo > STi

Just configured my 911 Carrera S online, the 98k base was ok, but with a few options it quickly went up to 128k. And I didn't even get everything I wanted....here's where I guess the CPO comes in handy, take advantage of someone else doing the full leather etc and whimsically getting a new car!

I think they are more comparable that it looks at first blush.

I was in the market for a 4 seat, rear wheel drive sport(s/y/ing) car which offered a manual transmission and at least a nod toward a manageable weight. That basically left me looking at 2 cars - the 911 and the M3 (used). I ended up with the M3 because I found a local M3 with the right spec and price before I found the same in a 911.

And while they differ greatly from a design and engineering perspective, the performance stats of a base 911 and a M3 (both E9X vs 997 and current generations) are right on top of one another.

I'll bench race the two cars all day....

Does the "S" take the M3 easily? Seems like the rule of thumb is to never get a Porsche in non-S, regardless of model.....and we're talking non PDK, I wouldn't be interested in it, and I know the numbers suffer with the manual....

The new 911 comes with PDK in both turbo and turbo S models. some of the difference between the two are a little bit more power in the S model, center hub wheel mount (no lugs) and a few other tidbits here and there. Personally I think the Turbo model is just fine.

Plus when you see the price on the Turbo S you'll be all like:

I'd think the Carrera S would. But at an even higher price point.

I'd drive a "base" 911 (you loose displacement and brakes vs the S), but at least in the used market you don't see very many with the more sport oriented options so I never found a car I got excited about.

Daddy's money

Just kidding... Although a 27 year old that makes enough money (say in excess of $200,000) to buy a $125,000+ car would be relatively unusual if there wasn't some family support.

Cant speak for other 27 year old people around here but I come from a less than fortunate family when it comes to money. Everything I have and own including my cars, motorcycle, and home came from hard work (not porn).

PS: wish I had "Daddy's money" I would be in a FXXK Ferrari right now lol

Before this goes too far off topic.. Has anyone tracked the new electric steering Porsches? From what I felt of my girls '14 Cayman, the steering is lacking some feedback under load at 50+ mph.

Is that something they are addressing? The hydro steering cars don't seem to suffer from that.

Based on limited actual experience (handful of test drives), I'd agree with a lot of the reviews I've read - the EPS is direct, nicely weighted and very accurate, but lacking in feedback.

The dancing in your hand feel of the 911 steering wheel (I actually noticed this a little in the 987 cayman too) is gone. While I certainly miss the feedback, I wasn't overly enamored with the twitchy steering wheel think so I'm not so concerned about that.

I meant mostly in day to day usability not necessarily performance. Ideally, one's garage would have an M4 for daily driving and a 991 GT3 for the weekend.

Maybe I am mistaken about the 911's convenience with the front trunk though.

If I had to choose one car to own I'd choose the M4. If I was in the position to own two cars, I would have a practical daily driver and then a GT3 in the garage.
