Don’t really hear about it on N54’s at those (and higher) power levels, though, definitely not normal hence the question about knock.

Rather than being derisive towards others in what I can only assume is an attempt to protect your business against those pesky remote tuners, perhaps just focus on being good at what you do? Having parts in stock helps too, that way people can buy them; shops seem to do better when they can exchange goods for money.
Didnt mean to offend. Just stating what appears to be not so obvious in recent years. Remote tuners cant see feel hear smell etc. And the thing about datalogs is they tend to show you the past. Easy to step a foot out wrong when your doing max load pulls and then sending the logs to botswana for a short 16 day turnaround. Multiply that by 8 revisions. By then you've beat down on your car enough to break stuff. Which is sad.
And don't in any way think I'm trying to gain work or protect my business, n54 stuff pays so poorly time spent vs income generated there is literally nothin n54 that i wouldn't class as hobby.

Not here to derail the thread. Lets see nino sort this engine out and get these ps2 singing.

New Whip

So was in the Dealership and next minute bought this for the running around car. Was a price to good to pass up thats for sure. Now I dont care if the 335i breaks down cause it can now sit in a shop until it gets fixed

Haha yeah the price was too good. Brand new was $105k with all the trimmings like the m-sport pack but picked it the bad boy up for $68,500 with 5 years servicing and 3 years warranty included and only had 1120km on the clock... pretty excited to pick it up next week. First mod will be to slap 20" rims on it lol

Just finished reading the entire thread...big power, but I'm sure big dollars and big frustration.

The pic of the engine still in the car but with the head off reminds me of mine at one point after I thought it would be a great idea to rebuild it in situ after a bent valve. Couple of wee cock ups later and I ended up pulling the whole thing out and sending it to the rebuilder before getting a bit too nervous and finally electing to just replace it with a used engine with 50k less clicks.

Reading this thread and all its associated downs just validates my decision I think...peeps should either replace their broken N54 with another unbroken one, or if it has to be built, consider ordering a crate one all done from a trusted builder in the US.

Things like running standard head bolts on such a build seem incredulous to me. But then like someone mentioned earlier, maybe that comes back to the poor communication you get from the experts by not fully informing you on the options, or making assumptions like "she'll be right"or "he won't want to waste his money on that." It's not just an auto industry problem unfortunately.

And seeing as the head has to come apart again, get them to tripple check the cam ledges...seems highly unlikely to me they would be wear free after those sort of ks, unless they've already been done and have the Teflon rings.

Sorry man, not trying to dis your efforts, such ups and downs come with the territory of being an N54 pioneer. It's an awesome build and hopefully you'll get the right result in the end. Don't fall in love with the pretty new blue one too much!

So the original head bolts are stretched and decided once and for all to pull the pin and get the MMP's ARP Ultra Torque head bolt kit.

https://mmp-e.com/collections/produc...arp-head-studs

Now waiting for other parts so I can sort this issue out once and for all.

So been a bit quite lately but thought I would share. Just got the car back from getting the bonnet and guards installed and sprayed. Pretty happy with the outcome.

So its been awhile since I have posted or even done anything with my 335i. Last week I finally pushed the go button on getting the head bolts sorted. So my mechanic pulled the head off and found a few things I needed to look at fixing while we had it off. Noticed that the exhaust side cam had deep scratches on it so had to replace it. Thank god 101duck had a secondhand one as I didn't want to spend $1500 on a new one. Had 4 roller rockers needing to be replaced. Also replaced all the head bolts with arp kit from mmp. New head gasket, oil housing bolts. I bought a injector Seal installer tool to put brand new seals on them. Set of new NKG 97506 plugs and replaced all 4 o2 sensors. Hopefully next week it all should be back together. Then I can get back to tuning it for 100% E85.

I also bought the M3 rear arm kit and a new aircon condenser since I was getting all the other parts from FCP.
