Haha well he is going to Houston next weekend to my knowledge...doing an EVO tuning day with maybe a few Subies thrown in there. They should have some very fast EVO's on the dyno that day

I think it sounds cool and might get it done IF I have your blessing on it.. =0)~
Well going to a vent to atmosphere BOV will hurt performance. Yes they do sound cool, but they are not the best thing in terms of performance, hence why both the 335 and the EVO have recirculating BOV's to begin with. It all depends on the level of compromise you are willing to make....

I don't know about the rest of your post, but I think Shiv has installed a few in the past atleast on EVO's. I forget what Shiv's record was, but he managed install an Xede on an EVO in less than a minute. Now the 335 will take a while longer to install due to the extra hardware and most likely a more complex wiring harness, so I guess the Xede install on the 335 would be up to him. Most of the people at the dyno days are very nice, so if you need assistance with getting stuff installed, the other people at the dyno are usually willing to lend a hand if you are nice about it

Each event usually take 2 days and services 15-20 cars. They are routinely held in Houston, Dallas, NJ, CO, GA and Southern California. Of course, our own tuning facility is in the SF bay area. So, yes, we do get around. And doing so is vital to R&D and the map refinement process. So it's always been a part of our business model. Always will be.

Bahaut Achaa Bhai!

Sorry...just had to get that out

Regardless, I have had nothing but immense respect for your logical tuning approach Shiv. I love how you dont just chase huge power numbers as all other tuners!

Best of luck with all the R&D....I know who Im going to be calling once I get my 335i :rocks:

A cat-back exhaust really helps. In fact, that's contributes to torque just as much as the Xede in the sub-5000rpm range. We've already designed one and expect to have product units ready for sale within the next 2 months. On our plate next is induction pipe and intercooler testing. Those upgrades may help as well but just the Xede and cat-back is enough for me at this time. We have 3000 miles on the clock so far (with the new mods) and the car is a blast. Just came back from Santa Barbara yesterday and averaged 32mpg on the highway

FlackM0nk3y- I've been to DC a few times, many many years ago. All our DC customers are now coming up to NJ for our dyno days there. I know its a drive but it's a lot easier than waiting every 2 or 3 years for some impromptu DC trip

Bravo1- The 335i runs a MAP sensor, not a MAF sensor so I don't think a vent to atmosphere is going to introduce any driveability issues as it would in an Evo or Suby. Then again, I don't think it will help anything either. But fwiw, I have two stock BOVs coming for testing sometime next week. We're going to see their leaking point and response times.

ericash-- I don't foresee any problem with the transmission. But the usual caveats still apply (as they would apply in a stock car): Don't dump the clutch. Don't power-shift. Basically, don't abuse your car

Cheers,
shiv

I love that.

P.S. Please make the sound of the exhaust as comparable to the stock sound as possible (if you can control that type of thing). I love the sound, and i also like its stealthyness when not revved high or agressively.

Shiv, love your stuff man, love you stuff (8mm reference, anybody?)

I am definately looking forward to this upgrade. I agree with sstarch1 in that hopefully the exhaust will be relatively stock sounding. I like the whole stealth approach.

Yeah, no kidding. We've been recieving emails from people on the 350z, audi, subaru, volvo, honda and, of course, evo forums. To say that the 335i has universal appeal would be an understatement.

-shiv

PS. The exhaust will be slighly louder than stock. This we can't avoid since the exhaust mufflers aren't internally chambered (which hurts power). But no one so far has ever commented that they find it too loud. It's not as quiet as stock at cruise. But this is because the stock muffler, during low load, shuts off the driver's side exhaust tip and routes all the exhaust out the passenger side muffler. This makes it sound like a muted 6 instead of two 3 cylinder running side by side. Under boost, this thing sounds awesome. The production exhaust will have larger muffler bodies which will make it a bit quieter than what we have now but it'll never be as quiet as stock (which I and others I've talked to thought was a good thing!) Different strokes for different folks i guess

Same exhaust tips? I love the stock exhaust look.

Yes, they look almost identical to stock. Maybe just a teeny tiny larger. Fills the bumper cut outs real nicely. As for the member who asked about quads, can't do 'em due to the shape of the bumper cut-outs.

I plan on debadging right away. The only other giveaway is dual exhaust outlets but I'm willing to bet that most non BMW fans will not know the difference based upon exhaust outlets.

I also don't like the loud ricey exhaust sound so something stealthy and stock like will be nice.

Also, this isnt just for shiv, but to anyone who knows...is this aftermarket exhaust going to void my warranty?

I live in Indiana, so i dont think i have emissions tests to worry about...but i dont know?

Any guess?

It will only void your warranty if they can prove that the aftermarket exhaust caused whatever malfunction that you took the car into them to repair.

Just a guess.... but the only warranty it will void, is the warranty on your exhaust. I think there is a law that states that the dealer has to prove that the exhaust caused another problem on the car in order for them to void it on that particular part... hope that made sense

Now that doesn't mean that the dealer will follow it. Some really sh!tty dealers will just say.... the exhaust made your car go faster which put more wear on your brakes as you had to brake harder now.. hence now your warranty on your brakes is voided. So it really depends on the dealer on whether or not it will be covered.... but in the real world, it should not void your warranty.

Here is a thread on bimmerfest.com that i found which backs up bravo's thoughts. I guess BMW could be real jerks and void the entire car, but they would never get away with it. So im 90% confident in the warranty remaining ok.
