Hmm...I didn't even think about that. But the auction does specifically say its for 2006+ BMW 3 series, so if it doesn't work hopefully they take it back. It kinda looks like the cables are way longer then they need to be too. Might have to do some cutting and soldering. I'll post how well it works once I receive it.

I just bought this from PC richards, http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=3029
I plugged it in, and was shocked to find that the sound quality is actually worse than plugging the iPod from the headphone jack into the aux jack. Does anybody else use this? |

dude, of course it is... with FM transmitters, you have all the noise interference of whatever FM station you are competing with. With direct connection, there is relatively no interference... AUX jack is the best quality you'll get with our setup

I found this discussion a few days ago and immediately ordered the parts. Today I received the Monster Ultra-Low Profile Charger and the Sound Professionals right angle stereo patch cable. Just plugged them in and went for a spin. The sound is excellent and no whine at all due to engine RPM's. I've used FM adapter's on other vehicles, trust me this is the way to go. Thanks for the info.

I've been using the monster approach. The sound is acceptable but the cable is low quality. I am going on my fourth one in two years. The first three have shorted in the plug end of the cable. I thought the first two were due to cold weather but the third one has been used only in warm weather. They are not worth full price, that's for sure, but the cost even at ebay discounted price is adding up.
Anyone got a better solution for those without usb as an option?

I use the Scoche remote... for some reason, when I first start up the iPOD and the car, it takes a little while for the remote to start working, and even after it starts working, there are some "dead spots" so you hafta kinda keep moving the remote until you hit a sweet spot... however, the "sweet spots" remain consistent, so now I know where the remote will work and I just use it in that position. I'd recommend the Scoche -- it's not perfect, but i think it's the best on the market at this point.

There is a monster cable... it's actually listed in this thread several times... read from the beginning and you'll see it...

i just put in an order for one of these cables:
http://www.ramelectronics.net/produc...pID=252969712# kind of pricey but they're custom length and high quality direct dock connector to 3.5mm stereo-mini plug. i got a 1'. we'll see how it goes but i'm excited to step up to line level output instead of that awful headphone jack bidness. |

I purchased the Monster Car Charger for my nano but when I turn the car on it says something along the lines of "this device will not charge with this accessory"...tried it in both cig. lighters with no success. Is there an issue with nano and the charger that I don't know about?
EDIT: So it appears the Monster low profile charger is not compatible with the newer Nanos Last edited by tys90; 08-26-2009 at 09:35 AM.. |

I have an 07 E92, aux in only, and I've been using on of these for a while now.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kensington-3...3470630&sr=8-1 I've taken the controller out of the holder and just have it in the storage tray by the gearstick. Ipod is hidden in the centre armrest, charges and plays just fine! |

Ok there seems to be a few options out there, for those of you with an Iphone 3g or 3gs my setup has worked perfectly and yes it also works with my 6th gen Ipod as well:
USB adapter: Sold at best buy, Rocket Fish is the brand, I paid $9 for this. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfi...&skuId=9347968 Cable: Mono price cable works just fine WITH THE USB ADAPTER ABOVE (seems to be some confusion on this) $4 there is also another company that sells this for $10 both work (I have tested both for charging/playing pretty sure its the exact same cable sold by the other company.) http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 Scosche-IPNRFC-Wireless-Steering-Control ($60): This thing is awesome, it has a pass though that allows charging and is a not a cheaply made product, best of all i can use it outside of my car for other reasons as the remote also comes with an extra and longer wrist/arm strap/holder for exercise. Works with my ipod and works with my iphone 3g with out me having to take the case off of it! I have it attached to my steering wheel with the supplied band and it works just fine with the ipod/iphone in the armrest. http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-IPNRFC...4624850&sr=8-4 Review of remote I found on youtube: This combo is a little bit more then the Kingston kit but the fact that I can use all of it out of my car is awesome. and the remote works through walls when i have it plugged in to my receiver in another room. Only downside is you CAN NOT see what track is playing through the stereo display, volume buttons on the wheel control the volume. The remote controls the skip, shuffle, play-list shuffle! car specs: 2006 325i, premium package with blue-tooth, no idrive or upgraded stereo. Tested with the phone I can still make calls through the blue tooth just fine. I hope this clears up a little bit of confusion on whats CURRENTLY out there. http://www.amazon.com/Micro-USB-Auto...6515530&sr=8-8 Here is a slight variation from what others here have used. I got the cable from the top link and plugged the 3.5mm end into the AUX in in the center console, then plugged the USB end into the Belkin charger from my second link and you are good to go. One cable that plays audio to AUX and charges the iPhone/iPod. This is no more wiring that the 6FL option Y-cable and works perfectly. The only thing missing from my setup is you cannot control the iPod from iDrive. I know the cable I got costs more than the similar cable others have listed from Monoprice, but the one I got is black and matches better. The cable has a very firm click when it snaps into the base of the iPhone and seems to be a quality item. On my 2007 335i this setup will also charge my iPhone 3GS. |
