Good to hear, I am curious if the dealer was just pulling your chain when they said no flash tunes will work with the new software?

It was my friend's friend (mechanic that fixed it) that told me this, not just "a someone" at the dealership..he just told me as a heads up that if I have a flash that it probably won't work to flash it back as bmw has added some protection for reflashing...

They flashed over my GIAC stage 2+. I went from the dealer to work and then from work to GIAC to get it flashed back. I'm running as fast as ever with no issues. BTW, I'm really glad that everything worked out for you.

The hurdle isn't Giac being able to flash over the new DME software and replace it with old software. The current issue is incorporating the tune with the new DME software (which has some notable improvements with regards to fuel pump control). Just a matter of time. But I don't envy the job Giac (and other reflashers) have with staying up to date with DME software and dodging all the curve balls BMW throws their way.

They are having some issues with certain serial number ECUs but they are working on that.
No matter what, BMW will try to do whatever they can, but the best will always have a counter punch.

It's close to the same issue except that yours was a while back and software companies are dealing with it now. No matter what, the strong software companies will prevail.

What was the part number of the new/improved injectors? I had mine replaced about 2 months ago, but I'm still having cold start misfire issues. I want to compare yours to mine. thanks.

sounds like bmw has possibly closed the code that allowed the tuners to get access to re-write the ECU (isn't it encrypted?), as well as added some more checks and balances to the code itself for better fuel pump regulation. I'm sure its just a matter of time before GIAC/others find a workaround for the MSD81.

My friend is the tech at the dealership so i was in his bay the whole time. Car required updates so he unplugged the dme and updated everything else but once we finished it would not let him initialize a new module so the dme had to be flashed over my giac stage 2 software. Everything is fine now with the new software giac has already give me the new file based on it. |
