http://www.ecstuning.com/News/BMW_E9...PumpThermostat

ECS tuning has a few packages... I would like to go with ECS's package thats $487 vs the OEM kit which is $564... anyone have any experience with it? Or should I just bite the bullet and fork over the extra $80?

Any other sources for better pricing on OEM parts?

My car has 80,9XX miles... of course literally one month outta warranty aint that about a bitch.
How freakin lucky am I? I called the dealership thinking I may have some luck getting them to do a good will repair since I am so close to the end of my warranty. Turns out the warranty ends July 24th... so I have 16 days left for them to cover it under CPO.

Happened to me about a month ago. I used ramps and went from underneath the car. I have an xi so the front subframe was in the way of removing the pump and stat. I got a engine support bar from harbor freight which allowed me to drop the subframe for easier access. Pretty straightforward, just had to be careful when dropping the frame not to bust yourself or any hoses.

I'll revive this thread. My second water pump went today. My first went at about 45k. Replaced under CPO. Car is only about 100 miles shy of 90k now.

It's really more of a maintenance item while you're in there. As titium said, it's only like an extra $80, but if it does fail later then your looking at $500 in labor, or many hours of your time.

Replaced them on both e36 and e46 because of the plastic.. At least they were cheap..

The Water Pump on my 328i x-drive went on me tonight. I was driving on the highway then got to my Pops body shop and heard a loud noise which turned out to be the fan. I turned off the car and gave it a few minutes. Turned it back on and the fan came back on a few minutes later and then the temperature logo came up on the screen. I turned it off again and then let the car cool off for a few. Tried to drive it home slowly and the logo turned red and said car overheated. Pulled over and had to push it into a parking spot.

I deserve this though I went and bought an aftermarket unknown water pump a little over a month ago. Gonna pay for one from BMW tomorrow with my father's business account discount. Hopefully it gets fixed by this weekend. Thermostat and Radiator are brand new too.

Mine went out on my e90 335i ~3 weeks ago while I was on the highway doing ~80mph @~69k.. yellow temp warning immediately followed by red temp warning..

At the time I was actually on my way TO my shop to have some other unrelated work done (Pure S2/inlets/outlets/1 bank of injectors) and the pump cracked.. getting towed the rest of the way to the shop was going to cost ~$1000+.. eventually with my roadside assist I got that down to $300.. hopefully get the car back tomorrow or Friday .. fingers crossed

Mine is an '09 e90 with ~67k miles or so. On my way home last night I noticed a slight bog/hesitation when shifting (6MT) and when I pulled into the garage the fans were blasting. This morning the same thing happened so I drove it a couple miles to my local indy shop. Fortunately it never shut down and I never made it to the stage where I got any warning lights or notifications. I'm being charging $1350 or so for pump, t-stat, fluids and labor. Good times.

I think it only takes a couple hours of time and parts are around $500. Still sucks.

PO replaced the water pump and thermostat at 87,000 miles and I am at 106,000. Thinking about ordering the setup and having it sit in the garage for good luck.

Is this a question?
When you pump is out your car does not run. If that answers you question.
