Just spent 9 hours detailing

1. Wash + Clay
2. Menzerna (The one below SIP, the all in one)
3. Zaino Z5 + Zaino Z2 + Zaino Z2 again
3. Zaino ZCS

Interior: Lexol Clean and Condition leather; Mother's plastic/upholstery cleaner + Aerospace 303 for soft-touch

Impression: The Menzerna product was good...def cleaned out the swirls, but could not touch the deeper scratches (Ie. ones left by a lady's purse)...so a great product for yearly swirl-removal.

I do mine myself, using a torque wrench is the key, you'd be surprised how many shops don't use them, and end up over-torquing the wheel bolts... speaking from a personal experience.... and my brakes got warped -the shop estimated the torque was well in excess of 150 pounds on the nuts... no more of this for me, now I do it myself

Cool

Amen to that.
An impact wrench + 90 lbs torque limiter stick + a Mastercraft aluminium jack.

The Rox: did you finally buy a Porsche Panamera????

Looks sharp. Sounds like a lot of effort. Which model Panemera is your car?

About 3 weeks ago. Yeah, they might have thought you needed mounting as well. I assume both places charge the same price for the same service; certainly not almost a 100% price difference.

Doing it yourself is much easier...don't have to put dirty wheels in your car either.

But I think any place can install your wheels, find the cheapest place!
Well I don't really have a place to do it, my parking area is a soft dirt lot behind my place, shared with 5 other cars. If I had a proper driveway wheel swaps and oil changes would be something I'd start to do myself.

Yea we've added a Panamera 4 to the family... the car is butter smooth; its a different class altoghether from BMW....its just so smooth and has cat like reflexes (esp the steering).

The V6 is so fast, wouldn't need anything more...it pulls to 200 kmph+ easy...its 100 KG heavier than my 335xi, so its about as fast as the 335...its pickup is faster b/c of PDK (Ie. 0-60 KMPH or 0-35 mph) it is very swift b/c of PDK.

Its a great GT car. Personally the 335 is still a much better value for dollar; this just combines sports car agility/steering with S-class-ISH ride characteristics. Plus its too easy to put 20 K + options on the damn Panamera.

Oh and hey...the reason why I didn't detail the e90 is b/c I need to repair egg shell damage which has gone down to the primer

I was thinking of base layer of touch up paint + clear coat + wet sand (1500 --> 2000) and then use Menzerna to clean up.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I will never park my e90 outside so close to the street again :| damn kids hit me four times.

I forgot to mention that before you do any paint, use a body solvent to degrease all those egg shell damages.
Something like this:

I have a can at home if you need to "borrow".

I'm still hoping to make it but am having scheduling challenges.

In other news my car goes in for its break-in service this Wednesday. I'm looking forward to the outcome of that (i.e. 8,300rpm, full throttle, and launch control).

swapping rims/tires

Where are you guys swapping out your winters for summers? I just was quoted $80 + tax at a BMW dealership to place my pre-mounted summer wheels and tires onto my car and take the winter setup off. I assume it would take their garage all of 2 minutes to do this so the pricing seems absurd.

My driveway.

Grab a Mastercraft torque wrench during one of their 50% off sales at Crappy Tire, and a can of anti-seize. It takes about 10 minutes a corner with a little jack and some attention to properly applying anti-seize.

Way better than loading wheels in to your car. Total time is about 40 minutes for me.

With a hoist, and air driven impact wrench at the dealer, combined with the fact they won't prep the hub surface it probably takes about 20 minutes.

And, most likely, over torque it using impact gun rather than torque wrench

Back in March this year, Infiniti dealership asked $100 to swap tires on my end-of-the-lease G35. Go figure
