Just buy the frickin euro switch for $55. If you mess up the customization on the stock switch, you'll need it anyway. The swapout takes under 60 seconds and is totally stock. Why mess with the switch on a 50K car?

+1, And if you ever sell the car you can take the oeuro switch out and put the old one back in. PLUS you get an LED light for the rear fogs with the euro switch

thanks for the DIY, i did this tonight in my garage and it took no more than a half hour, and that's just because i had trouble figuring out how to replicate the white piece. i ended up using a glue cap to let sit against the outside of the button and a chapstick lid with a napkin in it to actually push the little rubber buttons. it works great and i can activate my rear fogs without the front fogs.

I just did this mod. Very easy! it took me less than 30 minutes!
I bought an oem switch and used the white piece for the front fogs in my switch.

I definitely recommend this DIY if you can get your hands on a second oem switch.

I did the DIY. Pretty easy (thanks to the great instructions). After installing it and on my first ride, I pressed the light switch knob to see if it recessed as others have mentioned, and the whole new unit that I ordered fell inside the hole. I opened the trim again and pushed the part back into the trim... however it feels that it can fall inside if I press it with any slight force. Any else face this problem? fix?

ps: interesting thing to mention, I completed the DIY and then tried to start the car.. door was open, and I pressed the clutch and start button... nothing.. so I am like, maybe car wouldn't start with door open... try again.. nothing.. I am like DANG.. looks like major electrical issue... gonna cost me a lot ... then I realize, the key is not in the ignition... hahaa....phew!!

Thumbs up AWESOME!!

I did this a while back on my 2006 325i. It was surprisingly easy. Not to mention cheap because I used a retrofit of plastic and K-NEX.

Just picked up some blacklines and figured while I'm at it I might as well do this mod too... used a pencil, some hard plastic from a dvd spindle and little bit of the eraser.

Great DIY.

I stumbled across this thread 45 minutes ago, when to my car and took the Switch out. We had some acrylic pieces laying around on the warehouse, got the dremel tool and within a few minutes had fabricated my own piece.

Such a great DIY. NOTHING But PROPS to whomever came up with this.

Saved $55 that will go to another mod

I just did it and thanks to the photos and DIY advices it was extremely easy, for the missing part I just used a bolt with flat head, cut it to the lenght needed with a dremel and just attached a flat piece of plastic cut to the righ size with double sided 3m tape. It works great.

Thanks Andy

Just did this mod, used a pen cap and a nickel, did not even have to glue the nickel to the cap. The nickel fits in snug against the pen cap and the two nubs on the board!!! Very easy.

Just don't hit too many bumps on the road. I did that exact same thing but glued the nickle to the buttons.

Just did this on my '06 325i. Pretty straightforward. Biggest PITA was fabricating the little piece to push the buttons. Took about 30 minutes, but for some reason my angel eyes stayed lit while the switch was disconnected from the car.
