anyway, my 2 cents, decision is yours
FWIW, baseline maps will be provided with the open source solution as well. By multiple tuners in fact. I don't believe ATR is more flexible in its current state at least.

How will this freeware system work? Can someone post a flash map and then I download that map to my car to have that performance?
I'm only responsible for working out the software/mapping side of things so I can probably answer this question. Baseline maps will be posted up along with the 4-5 templates/XDF files that will allow you to simply cut and past data from the template into your DME file (which will be read and saved to HD by Rombinhood's device). There will be a video showing how to do this. This will take most people 1-2 minutes to do. I'm also testing a map editor that is supposed to do this automatically using a patch function. But that requires a bit more testing before it gets the green light.

Shiv
I meant flexibility over OTS maps and not other systems

You make it sound like our existing D-CAN cables we use for INPA, coding, TCU flashing etc. are no good for this open source solution. Are you saying we will have to purchase specific hardware to use the open source solution?

I'm not saying anything. But Rombinhood has said a few times that he and his team is testing a few different hardware options. I'm not at liberty to say much more at this time. But it is, after all, about time that people start complaining

why shouldn't they if the "open source" project gets bound to specific hardware.

Thank you for the reply. That sounds very doable for even someone not too technical such as myself. I hate to even ask this question but what is in this for you as a professional tuner? I've been around long enough to know at some point everyone needs to pay their mortgage. Will my car revert back to factory tuning after 250 miles until I insert my credit card in the CD player?

If it's truly "open source" someone can convert the release into something those of us with other cables can use, if it initially requires specific hardware. I seriously doubt rombinhood is in it to make a profit, but who knows. We'll find out soon enough I guess.

As a professional tuning shop, we offer in-house custom dyno tuning. So for those who just want a nice custom-tuned flash that they can go back-and-forth between stock, and make further adjustments as they see fit, this open source tuning option is a good fit and an easy sale. For those who want more advanced functionality (NLS, 2-step, meth control, external map sensor, better/higher boost control, single turbo, flexfuel, etc,.) the Procede is more appropriate. It's always good to have both ends of the spectrum covered. For those who aren't local to us, they always have the option to tune it themselves or to take it to another tuner local to them. I suspect this will eventually be no different from what the Evo/Subaru community enjoys now. Real tuners haven't gone out of business due to open source tuning. Quite the opposite. The best tuners will do well.

Even open source solutions require a but of hardware costs, lets just hope the prices are reasonable.

If it is open source the price should be easy to reach.

Are you guys planning on posting a current disassembly so we can add to our XDF as needed, or are you just planning on posting an epic version of a XDF along with watery versions?
