FYI, update from Ecotune is US downpipe should be available sometime this January.

An email from Stan on Oct 21 had him expecting a "ballpark" price of $650. That was before he had received my US DPF. There's a whole lot of tubes and threaded fittings for sensors and probes on that thing ...

I'm liking that January ETA.

TDI or Hoop, do you have logs of EGR temps from before the blocking plate install? What if we remove the whole EGR system, cap on both ends, replace the EGR cooler with a straight Coolant pipe, and apply a properly sized heat pad to the new "coolant straight-pipe" to emulate the effect of the EGR cooler. The question would just become the size & btu output of the pad. (Not my idea; one of my coworkers who had a professional race team in a previous life, "the simplest solutions are often the best"). I assume that Ecotune can rid us of the codes caused by missing sensors & devices...or do they need the sensors, egr, etc to still be in place in order to keep us from getting a code?

The operation with the EGR blocked is basically what the "EGR mod" behavior shown in the above link.

I've got a couple options for blocking the exhaust manifold. I'm leaning toward this copper slug to replace the compression fitting on the exhaust side of the EGR cooler.

I'm planning to first try the straight thru EGR cooler "coolant" pipe first and see what happens with the coolant temp behavior. If that produces bad results then your idea may be a good next step...

Tdi, is that flange made from aluminum like it looks to be? If it is, duplicating that so that cutting the EGR cooler is not necessary would be easy and would keep those expensive EGR coolers safe.

At first I thought it was aluminum, but now I'm pretty sure it's stainless. That's based on the weight for the amount of material and there's some magnetic interaction with a magnet.

Some of the diesel truck EGR cooler delete kits use billet aluminum plates on the exhaust side. Although based on the melting points of different materials, I'd expect aluminum to be very marginal material at the exhaust port? But this would be my first personal experience with doing something like this so no first hand knowledge.

aluminum has a melting point of just over 1200 F, whereas steel is over 2600 F.
you can make your own conclusion, lol.

so hypothetically if i bypass my dpf.. what happens to my warranty? am i totally sol, or will they work with me?

ok I want to put my 2 cents here I feel that they sell the bypass alone im planning to go thru RENNtech since thy mapped my car and have the dpf delete ready for a guinea pig to show up. I beleive it will be sold separately or combo

Hey guys, I am about to get my D on the road and came across this thread. I am also very interested in putting on an EGR and DPF delete. I run a machine shop here, if there is any help I can provide as far as fabrication/plates, etc, lemme know. Especially if it will help me in the long run :-)

How did I know you were going to ask me to make a downpipe? lol Well, Jan 2014 is right around the corner. Let's see if they come through. If not the first step would be me getting my hands on an extra stock one.....

I could make some plates up but would need a sample or drawing or something.

I was actually thinking of running the cooler over to a machine shop my company works with locally (in my professional life) to have an intake and exhaust plate fab'd up. What would be the best way to go about this? Im assuming it would just be to bring the original parts by the shop (best option) or give them a good traced template with a lot of accurate measurements (possible alternative)?

Either or I suppose. If you have a calipers you can get the measurements that way and make a decent drawing up. Keep in mind we hate templates... we work in thousandths of an inch so a piece of cardboard will probably piss them off lol

what do these plates look like? We have a waterjet here so plates are nothing for us.
