I do the free credit rating thing, but they want cash for the scores, so I just make sure everything is good and say no thanks for the scores.

You can raise your credit score over a 2 year period, by taking some savings, and securing a credit line at CitiBank, say $2K and $5K loans, you tie the Credit Lines (Secured Loans) to automatically pay interest charges, a few bucks a month, and then close out loan and start again, do this at a couple banks, and be sure to pay bills on time, and fix any old bills/collections, and rid them by settling with creditors. 2 years is not time at all to fix all the bad stuff, its just getting off your ass and finally facing it, and doing something about it. Take credit card offers and combine old balances and pay off, then cut up cards/cancel. Play em off eachother. Best position to be in is NO Debt other than the major, car, house, school loans, live within means and dont charge things you cant pay off in 3 months unless an emergency.
