Turbo Saga- Part Duo

Perillo wanted $300 to look into the Boot Lag (SA words not mine) on the Turbos, to determine why they (1 or both) are not functioning properly. I read the suggestion from Carlos to call Ryan at Bill Jacobs, so I left him a VM and will get his thoughts on this, before I proceed to have further diagnosis at Perillo.

I read the Turbo Lag threads pertaining to the some updates for the early build 335i's, which mine is a 10/2006. I would assume the Updates are in all Software Updates? Its had 4 HPFP's, last being 10 days ago, prior had a rough idle, after it had a surge idle/uneven idle at time though not frequent. SA now says its all inter-related which is odd to me.

If I am looking at new turbos, is there aftermarket turbos I should think about, and what kind of $$$$ am I lookin at here. I highly doubt BMW will cover anything at this point, a second owner car with 63K.

ugh...you are making my stomach hurt...this is why I wanted to sell my car a few months back pre-warranty expiration. I still have CPO but still...

As far as turbos, I was looking and Seth found one vendor who never got back to us...according to Julius at WSTO, he is not aware of anything with enough of a track record to feel comfortable with.

If you find something, let me know....

Tim if it is a software update I would suggest taking it to vs and having them do it. They can do updates with autologic and it will most likely be cheaper then having a dealership do it out of warranty

The rob beck turboes have shown the best results. ARs single turbo is a bit Mia while they figure out fueling (it's likely to be the power freak turbo on 12 months) and helix had a set that's shown improved power bit not monster numbers

Also you guys have to remember that Tim's car is completely stock, if he wants to upgrade turbos setup he will most likely have to upgrade FMIC, DPS, and for sure get a tune. I am not sure if it will be cost effective for him. Tim first find out what exactly the problem is. Then I would suggest upgrading turbos if you are willing to dump money into it or buy a set of used turbos and have them rebuilt. Let me know if you want to do option 2 I have a buddy who rebuilds turbos for a living and can give you a fast turn around

Ok Thanks-

Waiting for Periilo to tell me what codes were thrown, then going to consult Ryan @ BJ and also Midwest Performance here in city, so I get a clearer picture of most likely scenerio..

Wheel spacers info I have 2 people tell me it puts added strain on the wheel bearings/hubs, so get bigger wheels...

How is the 335i holding up after warranty? No major $$$ repairs that are known?

I always wondered if i should have kept the 335i....
