Both in. In daylight it matches the color of the xenons really well. They’re definitely not LEDs though - so it doesn’t look like the newer BMWs. A good middle ground.

this is a fair weather car and never wash it using water; i use meguiars products that suspend the dust particles and then just wipe it off;

https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/...26-26-oz-spray

wanted a "less is more" appearance by performing the cowl trim (which still allows any water to channel into the cowl tray and is directed as designed to the drains in each corner near the hood hinge) and wanted to remove the humongous oem cabin filter piece; the bms cowl filters allow a touch more mechanical sound to the cabin which is welcomed.
Thanks for the link! My car is an all-season DD, so water intrusion could be an issue, but I sure love the idea of those filters!

I do waterless as well, using Optimum Opticlean... same idea, and I love it!

thank you strada,
totally understand; i know redlands gets snow (and rain); you and i connected on the redlands discussion recently when i said my brother lived there decades ago related to work.

well done to you - using a waterless wash saves water and saves rusted rotors (unless you first spray them with hyde's serum) and water intrusion and potential rusting; great to see a fellow enthusiast using this product that works so well.

Works great and so much faster... just have to keep up on it every week or so to keep anything heavy from building up. I try to do a proper wash & wax twice a year... due for that now but lazy!

Hi Hoody, I'm curious about what you're using to fill the license plate holes in the bumper cover. Looks like color-coded inserts... is that a thing???

Mind. Blown.

Pricey but amazing product! My wife got a fix it ticket a few months ago for not having a front plate. Way over-zealous parking patrol. So we threw it on to get signed off on, then removed at ASAP. Any idea if these plugs are easy to pop off and reinstall a few times as necessary?

Or go to the hardware store, get some of these and use your touch-up paint:

Those are it!

Wouldn’t recommend removing and reinstalling. For one thing you need to drill a slightly larger hole in the bumper to get them to fit, and they have barbs to hold them firmly in place.

They look great, I love that someone came up with painting them to match! I think I need something that would be replaceable though... might be able to put a hack together using some sort of threaded insert... need to think on this!

Unfortunately it's the price you pay for the brilliant white LED look new BMWs have. From an angle, the outer bigger Angel Eye fades out because of the nature of the fibre-optic light passageway but from dead center in front of the car, they look phenomenal. I just upgraded to LUX 189s after running 180s for a while and the way they upgraded the LEDs to be angled helps a bit more with the "evenness" of the eyes but it's true that nothing compares to how optimally the traditional bulb works in e90 LCI headlights

AliExpress Rabbit Hole

Doing some contrast on my doors. Got more parts from China, overall I'm very satisfied with the value / quality of the parts. The only thing so far is the speaker cover...the locking tabs weren't "keyed" correctly, still worked tho. If anybody is on the fence and doesn't mind waiting a few weeks I say go for it. These parts were about 110 to my door...

Exactly. It was a $12 gamble I was willing to take (first AE express order, testing the waters out), and it paid off. 60 on Amazon for basically the same thing...

Looks good, the slight splash of black is definitely an improvement and works to break the tan up a bit; especially with the A section of the dash being Black, it works well

AE has surprisingly good stuff if you DYOR beforehand and you know what you need. I've bought similar stuff like connectors, door pulls, etc before and you'll start to look down your nose to aftermarket companies charging a 10000% markup on items you know they just sourced of AE for the same exact thing lol

greetings hoody,
when i purchased my 335is e93 this past dec, i removed the oem front license plate frame to prepare to assess the 2 holes drilled into the bumper to hold the plate frame in place; regrettably, the stealership that prepped the car for initial sale in may 2013 drilled THREE HOLES....b/c the two holes they drilled were not even close to being parallel or "level" with each other....so i can't install any engineered/painted plugs as it would look like crap; an appx cost to fill and respray the front bumper is $500-$700, so i have had to leave my front license plate on the car (at least for now).

it's interesting, one would think that bmw would provide a paper template or something to prevent the lot-boys and girls at the stealership from drilling holes in new car bumpers until they get it right (or wrong).

Maybe go with aftermarket.

After a day of running the MHD stg 2+ pump gas map to make sure I didn’t botch the install, I flashed the e50 map today. Really opens up the top end. Will definitely run this map for the rest of the summer. Had no idea I was missing out on this much fun.

I beat a stock manual mk 7.5 golf R on the stg 2+ pump map. What cars could I compete with on the e50 map? E92 N55 xdrive

I'm not sure how anyone with half a brain can screw up installation/alignment of an OEM license plate frame on an OEM bumper. When I got a new front bumper for my 330 I ordered a brand new license plate bracket because I wanted to run a front plate to avoid problems (even though I drove around for 6+ months without one and had no issues.) The BMW branded bracket has two hooks on the bottom that line up with slots in the bumper, then the top part swivels forward and you simply screw in the included self-tapping screws in the holes in the bracket. There's no way you can mess that up.

The 325 I had before was a different story. I didn't have the OEM bracket and re-used the generic one the car had on it. First attempt the holes were in the wrong spot and the screws were contacting the metal bumper reinforcement, so I double checked and raised it up a bit and it's fine, luckily it wasn't the other way around. But yeah, I learned from that and that's why I got the BMW bracket when I did the 330.

I’ve always done all red tails on my cars, so I decided to try this before painting.

This was $2 film from the store on my spare set.

Mmm, three plugs or even three holes would look better than a front license plate . . .

My wife's Toyota Venza it had four holes (two sets of top holes, one set being off center and not level - not sure why) so I used the commericially-available plugs. Very nice but very expensive. When it was time to plug the two holes on my 128i, I did the DIY hardware store hole plugs. I did learn not to hit them with the pressure washer, though, as you will then have to redo them.

I wonder if your car originally was in a non-front plate state. The BMW PDI people seem to do a good job. Dealers on the other-hand…
