Nice! How was the install?

Curious to hear your driving impressions, as well.

Driver side xenon bulb was out, so I replaced it, which didn't work...so I replaced the ballast, which worked. Amazon ballast which hopefully will last. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B9LKMWF...roduct_details

This is the best DIY I found for the ballast replacement -

Sounds like you have a good dealership. I knew going in it would take several hours but assumed that was the time requirement for the job. Now I know how much my dealership values my time and I did have an appointment.

Was getting a subtle misfire for a few seconds on a cold start in the N55. Took out coil #1, and it had a faint smell of fuel. Also noticed it was a bit loose (changed plugs recently.) Coils are Delphis with a silver body and seem to be original - only 75K on them if so.

Reseated and it seems like it’s better. What’s odd is that I never got a check engine light or codes of any kind. Super subtle misfire. Hopefully it was just a loose coil. Without codes it’ll be a real PIA trying to chase down what’s wrong…

Install isn't horrible if you've read up a lot on the process, this is my 3rd time doing this still learning things though...the biggest complication here is the input flange swap which is really difficult to find information for.

This will be my first experience with a helical LSD, so I will have to share my experience and how it compares with what I remember of the DiffsOnline 35/60 clutch-type LSD in my former 128i. Gonna need to find a good parking lot for testing purposes...

Update: subtle misfire is still present, only after it sits for a few hours. I’m thinking a leaky injector on cylinder 1. Uncommon for an N55 but I suppose not unheard of. At least they’re only $90 each. Unless I’m missing something? Plugs are new, and the smell of fuel would seem to preclude coils, no?

New shoes on the 335i: PS4S! Can't wait to try them out but I need an alignment. I had some weird sounds and weird handling, which I think was related to mismatched tires (with one defective) and the need for an alignment. It sounded like a bad wheel bearing but on the mile drive home from the tire shop that seems to be gone, so maybe it was just a bad tire.

Visual and wiggle tests, oil change, tire rotation, stuck my finger in the gearbox and T-case.

Talking New Front Suspension

Finally installed my M3 control arms! It looked fairly simple, but getting those lower arms in the subframe was a bear. Also quite the workout holding the ball joint studs while cinching down the nuts. I was hoping to transfer the old tensions struts to the green car, but they were shot, so ordered the same kit for the other E90 in my driveway.

I had some issues tightening the tension struts with the suspension loaded on my lift, so I opted to do that part with the car on the ground. Just had to remove the front fender liners and it was pretty easy. Now off to an alignment.

Did you sand down the arms at all to get them to fit? I definitely had to sand mine a little.

No, but I did file the inside of the frame slightly, had some burrs in the way. Once the bushing got past the outside edge, it seemed to have more wiggle room getting aligned with the holes.

I did the M3 arms a few weeks ago and had no issues whatsoever. I was expecting the worst based on what I read but it was simple. I just used a small file to smooth the grooves left by the old arms, barely any metal filed away. New arms slipped right in with a dab of grease and a few taps with a rubber mallet.

I personally felt better about sanding the arms than the car itself, as I thought the mounting point was already pretty smooth, but I'm sure there's variance in our cars.

Mine insisted that it would take "longer than I wanted to wait" and thus gave me a new 430xi as a loaner...which was fun and all, but it made me want to be back in my E91 asap. All told, they had the car for half a day. Given that the recall was to just splice in a fuse, I suspect it actually took all of about 30 minutes top.

What I did to my car today...did a 780 mile drive along I-90 and back. Close to 34 mpg at around 80mph the whole way. Not bad for a 15 year old (which is how many years old in people years? :-) )
