when air gets compressed, it gets hot, the intercooler only has the ability to remove so much heat from the system, and hence you heat soak when the thermal exchange abilities have been surpassed. hot air is less dense, but also can cause preignition where the fuel lights off before the spark plug fires, this is known as "knock". The car will be slow to accelerate because of this as it pulls timing out to keep from damaging to the motor, think of each preignition event as hitting your piston with a diamond icepick, pulling timing keeps the exhaust valves open longer relative to the intake valves, allowing the piston to complete its compression stroke before the fuel is ignited.
If you would like to truly test if there is anything wrong with your turbos, put yourself in 3rd gear at 1400rpm and roll onto the throttle. there should be about .2-.5 seconds of "lag" before youre pushed back into your seat by the tq (you want to do this at this specific rpm because it is where your car generates the most torque). If it passes this test, you then want to get on it at 4000rpm in a higher load gear (4-5-6) and see how long before you experience significant acceleration, there should be no delay here. If the car fails either of these, and is still slow to spool/ accelerate, we can take a look at other options (bypass valve diaphragms stand out to me) |

Thanks for that, so would this condition throw a Code/Engine light? It was never above 250 on the oil gauge and its was 55 degrees out, not exactly warm.
That said, they seem to operate fine in cold and all rpms, even when the Ck Engine light came on, the power decrease was minimal though noticeable. Could a vacuum hose or valve sensor be faulty? I guess they will see tmr when they read the the codes and diagnosis is more detailed. But I am feeling better about the fact the turbos work, just not functioning properly in certain conditions. Cheers! |

Jeff say:
"there won't be any stored codes, and blown turbos make dying pig sounds and no boost Boost leak not likely Probably blown diverter diaphragm Boost leak would not affect overall performance as the turbos would spool more to hit target load Unless it was a huge leak In which case an ses/cel would remain lit Oil temp does not have to be high for boost air temps to rise Ie Oil can be 180-190 And bats can be 190+F which would cause the car to switch to a reduced timing/load map To prevent knock Esp if sitting in traffic heatsoaking" |

I've still never understood why NYC ever mandated yellow cabs...are they too stupid to tell whether or not it's a cab? Did someone with political connections have a bunch of left over yellow paint?
