I've noticed that the tape is often coming loose when the packages arrive. It may be they changed tape supplier and the adhesive is not as good.

I have mostly noticed more issues with how the packages arrived with the change over from FedEx to UPS for shipping. I never had anything arrive beat up with FedEx...UPS has been more of a crap shoot coming from FCP.

My box was delivered by USPS, so that's something new. The tape let go on one of the flaps, and the box was severely crushed. I presume the crushing caused the tape to let go, so if it was handled better it wouldn't have been a problem. But the tape probably wasn't put on as well as it could have, or else it wouldn't have come off. Luckily the packing department is better than the taping department, as the box was way over-stuffed with their packing paper. That kept everything in as well as protected it.

But hey, it got here a day early!

Looks VERY straight forward, so I just need to block out some time. It gets VERY hot here in inland Southern California, so figure this could possibly help the car overall. Relatively inexpensive if you get the housing/cooler used. I went new for the coolant pipe, although you can buy rebuild kits on ebay.

Of course I had an emergency radiator R&R a few weeks before I got this...

If you look for a 2011 F10 mirror, they’re typically the cheapest ones on eBay. FYI the clown nose on mine was gray, which I believe makes it a later production ‘11. Look for a mirror with the same circular mounting bracket.

I bought mine for $25.

Here is the box as delivered this afternoon. The box was crushed and the tape over the top was totally off. Luckily FCP did a good job packing and everything was there!

I'ver been thinking about doing this as well, now that I've learned how the dang cooling system works. I've learned to trust the power of a giant CSF radiator. I was initially thinking about retrofitting the 335 oil cooler into my car, but after seeing that this is how porsche cools its oil I concluded I'd be dumb to try and outsmart them.

The added benefit of the route you're taking is faster time to temp for oil. The n52 takes FOREVER to get to temp on oil!

This is a standard thing on X3 and 530/528 cars, so it's a known thing for the N52!
In fact I pulled it off of a 530i.

I think it just wasn't put on the three series as a cost-cutting decision.

FYI the new kit is pushing $800... crazy!!!

Yeah, it makes sense from an emissions perspective. I believe I have everything I need but the actual cooler part. Might need a hose to route the coolant as well. I bought a used OFH a billion years ago.

I bought a new hose, it was cheap. The coolant pipe is relatively pricey. I got new gaskets as well. Basically all new except for the actual housing and cooler. Cooler is sorta' reasonably priced, at least in comparison to the housing and stupid pipe!

I pulled a used coolant pipe at the same time as it was just $8, but the rubber gasket was in pretty bad shape. I bought a $15 rebuild kit from ebay, but went ahead and just bought a new pipe. That was a little spendy and something you may want to skip to keep the overall cost down. I'm still in it for $250, so not bad. About 1/3 of new and could go less with the rebuilt pipe. Then it would be just about $100 total.

Busy couple days. Went on a day trip for some 219m wheels for the daily. With construction it took 12 hours Excellent mountain drive though. Seeing redline multiple times with a RTT on top and I still managed over 25mpg!

Also put my 330s old steering wheel in (mind the poor wrap job, I did it when I was a teenager), as well as a m perf gear selector and tri stitch boot. Got some sharpie for the selector stitching, the white was just out of place. Thanks fazm I owe ya lunch

I cleared some codes and went for a drive to see if they returned. Decided to take the furball, who decided getting car sick and vomiting on the back seat was the way to thank me.
Spent the morning cleaning up that mess and decontaminating the biohazard site that was my rear seat.
TMI?

Picked up a M-sport steering wheel. Expect my pristine sport wheel to be on sale shortly

Always wanted to do this particular mod, but my former E90 had a heated sport wheel and I didn’t want to loose that.

Finally removed the paddles 2 years after finishing the manual swap. I was going to put an X1 steering wheel on, but it turned out to not be heated, despite having the same part number, so just swapped the trim so I wouldn’t have sticky buttons anymore and pulled the paddles off.

I also picked up a steering wheel spacer last week, and am working to get it installed. I can finally get my 6-4 self into a good driving position. However, it was supposed to come with some harness extenders, but didn’t.

And I got the replacement carrier bearings today, so the differential is getting nice and cold to throw those on and hopefully finish that job this week! Very excited to drive the car when it’s done
