I was surprised how easy it was to swap with common tools and a very small garage. But imo dream project is a F31 with a B58 6mt swap. F31 looks way more aggressive and as much timeless. Also B58 magic... But this swap would be easily 4x the budget. And it is very possible to get most if not all modern commodities on a E91, including digital cluster, heads up, adaptive cruise, carplay, comfort, cameras, etc Won't speak too fast, it's not done, and If someone here can propose me a supplier that can have a DKM twindisk 6 bolts in canada asap at the retail normal price, Ill take it. Waiting since May, Mayyyyy |

Does anyone know the pinout for the rear view mirror- and what each wire is for?
Thinking of experimenting with a G20 mirror..

My truck has one but I refuse to sync it to the phone app. Too many notifications, it's annoying. Yes you can turn them off but I just ditched the app instead. Plus I've been known to go places rapidly. Mustang does not have one. The way I see it, a time and a place. |

For example, I'll be at a light pull the lever to sport mode and just hit downshift to let it go into manual mode. I will take off in first gear moderate throttle and short shift myself into second and the car automatically goes into third because the trans was already going to shift. So you hear the car go from 1st - 2nd and immediately shift to 3rd right after. Also if I put it in manual mode and try to rev out the gear while applying the same amount of throttle the transmission will shift by itself. Last edited by DBShiznit; 09-28-2023 at 03:01 PM.. |

Follow up to Oil pan gasket and front suspension parts replacement from last weekend.
It's all done now. Well except for the CCV valve to crankcase hose. I kind of forgot to make sure it was aligned with the drain tube when I re-installed the oil pan and it got sandwiched between the drain tube and motor mount. I mangled the hose end getting it out of there as I was not taking the oil pan back off after it was torqued. (Aluminum bolts) So new hose on order. Then it's finished. A little surge in idle since the hose got mangled. Figure there's a vacuum leak now. All the suspension went in nicely and new strut mounts. Drives much better. Somehow I managed to get the tie rods really close to the old ones so it tracks very straight. Taking it in for an alignment today at 3pm. |

$23 and 20 minutes of my time later and I have upgraded homelink 🤘🏼no longer have to use that stupid compatibility bridge. Well for one of my cars at least. Also swapped over the clown nose. The ones on the F10 are clear/smoked

Got a new rear console thing from AE as mine was suffering from the usual wear and tear. Got the one with cig lighter holes, and some barrel style usb power adapters thinking it'd all work out for power in the back. Nope, those adapters were WAY too big for the holes. Got a set of singles and ended up printing mounting bezels for them, they barely fit at that...

New front shocks for me today. Nothing fancy. Just some Bilsteins to match the rears. 118k miles on the originals - not too bad really.

Well, I did some good to my E91 and some bad to my E91. The Good:
Noticed the DRL/Angel Eyes were out on the passenger side so decided it was time to go with LEDs - Sylvania H8s: Then decided it was time to give up on the carbon fiber kidney grills that have been on the car for about four years. They have both yellowed and the clear coat on the driver side grill is peeling. I dug out the OEM plasti-chromes and decided that instead of painting them, I would try the brushed metal look. So some sandpaper and Scotch-Bright pads - not great but better than the bright chrome look. They will do until I decide what to do long-term: And then, replacing the weatherstrip/molding above the windshield. It's just a single strip across the top - how hard could it be? Besides, I've done the three-sides version on my E82 and my father's E63. Yeah, well, it's done but I'm a gonna need a new windshield: I'm not sure exactly when I did it but it was when I was trying to get the end out of the channel to start the removal. Getting it out was challenging and I must have put too much stress on the edge of the glass. Yep, Doofus Award for me today. Well, next inspection is in March so I've got a few months before I have to deal with it.

Okay final update on oil pan gasket saga.
New oil pan gasket not leaking anywhere. New CCV to crankcase hose installed. The old hose that I mangled was definitely leaking a small amount of oil down the side of the oil pan. The surge at idle went away as well. If you have a surge at idle check for vacuum leaks before chasing anything else. My .02. So currently no oil leaks top, bottom, front or back of the engine. First time since purchased in 2/2022. One small piece of advice if you have to swap just this hose. Car is a 2006. Later cars may be different due to CCV changes. Do it from the bottom of the car. There is a small metal shield that protects the fuel line. Remove this and access to this area is greatly improved. Was able to see everything at that point, including where to connect the wiring plug. So much easier than trying to do it with the shield in place. Also alignment went well car is driving the best it has since we've had it. Slight vibration at speed I think it's the center bearing in the driveshaft. Follows car speed not engine speed. Guibo is fine but will get replaced when digging into that. Then I think it's done needing repairs for a while. |

Holy $#!@, I can't believe you typed that out loud. I just heard your car say, "Hold my beer."

'08 323i (Canadian car) with sport suspension. ~130k miles (~200k km)
Bought all the Bilstein B4 suspension parts + related parts a few years ago... and they've been sitting around since the front end spring compressor work scares the heck outta me . Anyone know who can do just the spring compressing work in Toronto/Hamilton area if I bring the disassembled parts ready to go and take back "compressed" for DIY install? Well, the back-right strut started bleeding out. Literally a puddle in driveway1 and more in driveway2. Did the back right tonight and it was pretty straight forward. Will do the back left over the next week (was getting dark...) Very happy to have bought all of the guide supports, grommets, caps, etc. They all needed replacing. Maybe I could have gotten away with re-using the spring pad that was on the trunk (maybe compressed just 1-2mm), but I was very happy to replace the rest. |
