fwiw, I definitely believe that the aluminum trim holds up so much better aesthetically than the faux wood over time.

Washed it and waxed, and also applied gummipfleger to the rubber trims in preparation for stupid winter storage.

Replaced the POS Mahle radiator with an OE BMW one. First radiator job. Getting the radiator out was quite something. The previous shop who had installed it forgot a few screws too.
Getting the right radiator was a bit of a saga - apparently the radiator has been superseded now with one missing the lower coolant port on the passenger side - there’s a block-off plate that’s meant to be used now. Thankfully my local dealer had a few of the previous ones in stock.

Took me probably 8hrs in total. Car is all back together, went to fill it with coolant and my upper radiator hose is leaking (it wasn’t before).

Of course the local dealer is closed tomorrow. I’d order it from FCP, but I need the car later this week.

I find myself buying genuine BMW parts more and more lately. Seems like 'OEM' supplier quality is getting worse as these cars age where manufacturing is moved to cheaper countries.

Bit of a long story. At 350,000 miles I took deer hit No. 4, which totaled the car economically with the insurance company. The damage was not that bad and included the bumper cover & grille, core support, hood, right headlight, left fender. I bought it back and paid about $900 out of pocket to repair at a body shop. With that mileage and slight tweak to the radiator because the core support cracking (it was not leaking) I decided to replace it with a fresh part, a Mahle.

Three years later I had the E90 at the dealer for the HVAC blower connector recall. The obligatory tech inspection to upsell shit found the radiator was leaking. Small drips from each bottom corner. I found some wetness, but it was not leaking under temp and pressure, just cold static sitting.

So, I removed the fan and took my big-ass Channel Locks to it. I re-crimped the side tank clamps, which fixed the drips and the radiator has been drip free ever since, some 2 years and 16,000 miles later.

Efthreeoh - Mine was leaking from the bottom on the driver-side. Sounds like the same area.

Oh, and it turns out the leaking upper radiator hose is a Rein part from 2021 (replaced by the PO). Looks to be cheaply made, too (check out the inside).

So to the debate on the other thread regarding OE vs. Rein hoses, well, I guess you have my perspective on the matter.

Well, the first time I replaced the radiator it probably took a few hours. At the 4th time now, I think I can have it out and in under 30 min.

The missing screws just make the job go faster.

Seriously though, maybe you'll have better luck since you've replaced it with an OE BMW one. I've gone through several Mahle's and am now on a Nissens. Which seems to be good.

Trial fitment of M-sport front bumper. Headlights coming out and polishing them as well.

need to send bumper out for some paint. Had to go outside in darkness to see the drivers side is noticeably brighter. It sure was.

Whenever I get a new car, swapping in aluminum trim is the first job I do.
That and the related ashtray delete as they have all been pre-LCI.

Did well over due motor mounts this weekend. I didn’t know how bad they were until they came out. That would explain that inconsistent metal on metal on cold starts,

Fair enough - good thing I have extra BMW screws which I’ve accumulated over the years.

The OE BMW manufacturer is Modine - very well regarded in E46 circles. Nissens was my second choice, but I figure that if it leaks in the 1st 2 years, BMW will cover it - parts and labor. Not that I’m expecting it to, as my old 335i’s original rad lasted 150K (car was totaled out).

Thank you Sir. 100% ingrained in me by my father. A man only few appreciated in his time.

I must say I find your dedication to keeping your cars in pristine condition is beyond admirable. They are indeed well cared for rolling museum pieces that preserve the beauty of the artwork the designers intended. I at first had concerns of you giving up the M Coupe, but now understand your vision for the E93. I wish I had such drive as you have for the art of resto-peservation. Well done my friend.

Man that interior looks great! I'd love to achieve that one day. I know a lot of people like to black out the window trim from the silver but I have a black saphire car and would love to keep the silver trim and add hyper silver wheels. I think it would give good contrast with black interior and aluminum trim.

thank you mr longevity,
i posted this a yr ago when i said goodbye to my 12.5 yr relationship with my beloved red roadstetr....as she sat idling in pristine condition in my garage, the transport driver took pictorial documentation, papers were signed and then he got in her and said "ok, i'm loading now"....and backed out of the garage in a light rain mist....i could not watch and went inside and my wife held me while i wept - true story.

my goal was to be car-free and that didn't last long....wanted a car she could drive (hence the 7 speed dct) and a bmw lover friend of mine said a 335is vert would be a perfect fit for me; wanted a west coast car and found the red rocket in san jose, ca; flew down late nov 22, test drove and drove her home along pacific coast highway to avert the i-5 siskiyou mountain passes in southern oregon; provenance shows she was delivered to bmw honolulu and after the 3 yr lease, she went to the seattle area (not far from where i live) and then to san jose; purchased @ 36.5k miles; she is now at 38.8k miles; i'm repurposed (aka retired) and have the time to pull a wheel and spend 2 days uber-deep cleaning and carefully spray painting to make her look like-new; lightly modded with aluminum chargepipe, bov, plug-and-play turbo booster software, ngk 1 step colder plugs, dinan performance coils, billet aluminum pcv, oem pcv blowby hose, etc.

my z4m roadster had bilsteins with eibach pro-kit lowering springs and a few other mods and handled like a race-kart; i must say this heavy behemoth (4k lbs) is just one notch below in agility, acceleration, braking, etc. both cars were/are fair weather drives and that's just perfect for me.

Picked up a new headliner for the wagon including a sunroof cassette so I don't need to try and put that together yet. Was attempting to get a good under tray but BMW yard had none. Gonna have to rig up something as it needs the splash shield.

Semi finished up front end today minus the underpanel need to source a proper one.

Pick up sunroof cassette and headliner tomorrow. That's a veterans day project after I march in local parade next month. Oh and that eyesore of a work station will be repurposed this week. I have been LAZY. Funny the shape of M-Sport is that noticeable between LCI and pre LCI.

Installed a BMW Performance SSK, weighted shift knob, and turner bushing on the 325i, MUCH better feel and engagement.

Only one problem: it collides with the driveshaft especially in 5th. Wasn't expecting this given its a OEM part, any ideas/solutions?
