I went to see a detailer and a Euro specialty body shop and found out that the clear coat on the hood, roof and boot lid is failing. I'm likely going to wrap those panels rather than spending $2500-$3K on repainting them.

It costs 3K for a full color change, I've never seen a "perfect" color match from wrap to paint other than jet black

Weird that they failed - you’re the original owner, right? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an E90 with failed paint - and I’ve seen some pretty ratty examples…

What color? Black Sapphire or Jet Black?

There are plenty of them in CA, all dark colors. My niece's 325 has a faded roof. It was likely never garaged by any of the previous owners, stored outdoors in blistering sun and likely never washed/waxed properly. It's Sparkling Graphite Metallic. My 330 is a few months older and the same color, and has no fading whatsoever. Prior owners probably garaged it and waxed it somewhat regularly.

WAY back in the day, (early 90's) i saw the FIM 500cc 2 stroke GP factory bikes ridden by wayne rainey, kevin schwantz, mick doohan, etc....it was incredible; went to indy car there as well.

That must have been amazing. I can only imagine.

I got to meet Nicky Hayden (RIP) on that trip. Was a highlight.

I am the second owner and bought it seven years ago with 107K miles on it. There was always an issue with the panels, I got into detailing it and got to the point that nothing I did would resolve the issue. The car is Black Sapphire Metallic and I should probably get a couple estimates on painting the panels.

Got it… Wonder if the car was partially repainted at some point. A friend of mine bought one of the last E93s new. A few years in the hood started to peel. Turns out the car was damaged on the lot and the dealer sold it new, no damage declared. If you’re in the Atlanta area ever I know of a reasonable place - they redid the hood & bumper of the 850i.

bought 6 N54 coils on FCP, and received BBT Technologies coils... i was , ah fck no way dont want to return them.

well, reading is the key :

Note: Eldor coils do not come in Eldor branded packaging as Eldor does not have an aftermarket sales division. This coil will come in a white box or box with BBT Technologies branded on it. The part number on top of the coil in both cases will read "R3516S00100" with a production date/time stamp underneath.

what a privilege to meet such a world-class rider.

indeed, the 500cc GP 2 stroke factory bikes....i've never heard anything close to the visceral screaming from an engine, other than an early 2000's Ferrari F1 3 liter v10 normally aspirated @ redline 18,000+.

I lived in Atlanta for fifteen years, Madison, GA for five and moved back to Nashville just before the pandemic. I'm thinking about checking with local options to paint the panels as I'm leary of wrapping them which seems to last 4-5 years and matching BSM may be difficult..

Of all the Bmw colors I’ve sprayed, BSM was one of the easiest to match.
A lot of cars are damaged during transport and repaired before they hit the lot.
Oem Bmw paint is pretty good. Peeling clear is rare, but it’s possible. Maybe cars that came from a certain plant?

amen to that!
the insanity of a top fuel dragster (or funny car)....the tylemmetry coming off the dragster:

0-100 mph: 7/10's of a second
6g launch
1000 ft track for the top fuel dragsters and funny cars (track shortened from 1/4 mile (1,320 ft) to 1000 ft due to excessive speeds of 335 mph and race tracks built and designed in the 60's that do not have adequate deceleration zones (length of track) to get the freaking things stopped.
elapsed time: 3.6 sec
mph: 335

i go to pacific raceways when the nhra is in the seattle area and have gotten to know antron brown (3x top fuel national title winner); was there for his first yr in top fuel in 2008 after a successful career in pro bike; when you ask him what it is like to launch one of these things, his eyes just glaze over.....it's insanity.

have an old friend that was pitting for a top fuel car (not a competitive team or car) and in 2019, he have me a full pit pass to be with the team and stand at the start line where the cars launch....i was about 20 ft behind the top fuel dragster and when the driver hit the go pedal...,.it was a literal explosion and massive sonic concussion that hit me....it was one of those moments in this life when in a nano-second your body says you're gonna die and run....small bits of rubber were pelting me as the car went to 100 mph in 7/10's....it was terrifying.

Bumper Guides....your guidance, please.

greetings from seattle,
i removed the front bumper to replace both brake air ducts which had small cosmetic damage in view when looking at the front of the car and request your assistance from those that have removed the front bumper....

the original front bumper guides were both in place but had been intentionally broken out on the end where the fastener connects the front bumper to the front fender.

i purchased replacement bumper guides (all parts genuine bmw).

here's the question - the bumper guides have two wedged shaped pieces that i believe slide into the front fender fitment and "lock" in (the second pic allegedly shows the two wedge shaped pieces locked in); i cannot get the new bumper guides to lock into the two fitment areas and still have the large end piece of the bumper guide slide into its fitment in the headlight frame section.

do these bumper guides really "lock" in as i've described or is it ok to not have them "lock" in as described?

the drivers side original bumper guide came out with little force but the passenger side is really wedged in there; i've tried using a small flat blade screwdriver and somewhat aggressively tapping it to "slide" the bumper guide out of its "locked" position and it won't come out; i may need to get the drimmel out and cut it to remove it.

thanks so much for your guidance:

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-7...uine-bmw-part/

UPDATE: Old age and treachery overcame the passenger side bumper guide - a little lateral drive with a screwdriver and hammer unlodged it and all is good.

Still ask that someone speak to the new bumper guides "lock" when they slide into position....

Eons ago (late 1980's) I was at the NHRA Nationals held at York, PA. We had pit passes. I don't remember the team now, but we were watching in awe the top-end rebuild of an engine. Working under a canopy hanging off the team shop truck (full machine shop inside) the mechanics pulled the heads and dropped in replacements; all in about 5 minutes. The mechanics all march in the shop truck, then come out a few minutes later all wearing gas masks. Strange I thought... I was 6 feet from the engine... With no warning, they lit off the motor and good God I did think I was going to die; the sheer violence of it was beyond intense. The environment completely changed in a nanosecond. Deafening sound, heat, ZERO oxygen, and God knows what was in the exhaust fumes. It was like instantly changing atmospheres with Venus is all I can imagine to convey the state of change I experienced. We all scattered like ants. LOL.

So friken cool.

Works great, but rattles if you don't have a phone in it.

The base part is a little bit time consuming to install as you need to screw in four really small grub screws. But once it's on it's great. Blocks door lock and hazard buttons which I don't like, but that's the only downside.

Rennsport has another good mount, but I didn't know about it at the time: https://www.rennline.com/exactfit-ma...t-sku-pm01-56/

Still waiting for the fcking N54 clutch to put back the engine in my E91.

Meanwhile, I might want to put back the N52 in my 335 to do a nice winter beater,

ORDERED in may, MAYYYYY , DKM still sending me delays.

Now in the process to buy a new house, and I dont want to bring both cars with parts in a trailer.

Had the windshield replaced after getting multiple chips on a highway trip. Used Safelite and requested OEM glass, was considerably cheaper than the dealer.

Also discovered yesterday that my traction control works, and works well. Took a downward curving exit ramp a bit too quick on damp pavement. Have never slipped in the rain before, guess there's a first for everything.

SO well said -
NHRA has reduced the rebuild time to 45 min....yes, blower off/heads off/pistons out/5 disc clutch out,,,,and refresh and reassemble and light the BEAST off to set timing, etc....oh, the smell of NITROMETHANE in the morning.

the weekend that i had the full pit pass i watched in awe as the team ATTACKED the car when it returned to the transporter, and stood quite close to the BEAST when they lit it off....but the one time in this life to stand behind two top fuel dragsters when they hit the LOUD pedal is etched in my brain.

we have great memories to cherish.
