Was all set to pick up Dinan coils, but the OE Delphi coils are on sale for $17 each at FCP. No brainer there.

And E93Seattle (Racerbruce) - that’s another level of cleanliness. Surprised you didn’t wax the bumper crash bar 😂

Just safety. Brakes, tires, lights, horn, etc. My county is rural, so no emissions inspections. BUT, I did have a catalytic converter trouble code lighting the SES light. It wouldn't clear or reset on its own (it will) with the ambient air temperature data absent, which is why the repair of the temp probe harness yesterday. The code will appear if I drive the E90 a short distance and shut it off before it completes a drive cycle. This morning I had an extended drive before I went to the place for the safety inspection. The cat SES light cleared on the way over. The gauge cluster was icon-free. Lol.

The guy who does the inspections knows I keep my cars in great shape. He's a bit lenient. I throw him some work now and then when I don't have time to DIY.

Last year's drama was a cracked windshield.

well done and thank you -
for the unlearned (that would be me)...."The code will appear if I drive the E90 a short distance and shut it off before it completes a drive cycle." Q....How long of a drive is considered a drive cycle?? Is it an algorithm (much like the OCI) that assesses miles driven/ambient temp/engine temp, etc??

I'm not exactly sure, I've not commited it to memory. I believe it is manufacturer defined within some parameters of the EPA OBDII requirements. Good question. I'll have to see if the Bentley manual describes it.

PS: did you see my mention of you in the post above re adding (can't recall) an oil cooler or the additional radiator to your ride??
Yeah, all the power!!!

I didn't notice your question, but saw it out of context above... about the oil cooler? It's on a N52, so different than the N55 remote kind I think was being discussed? Anything specific?

BTW are you going to enter into any concours type of events? Looks like you would be competitive there with that amount of detailing!

pulling from memory - did you find a pristine oil cooler in your excellent pursuit of the carcases in the graveyard? i recall that you did and installed either an oil cooler or the additional radiator....

about the concours entry....i can only DREAM.

i LOVE your red START button....is it quite difficult to install??

i don't have the blue plastic trim tools (i'd buy them)....

would love your guidance.

There are several master techs hanging in this thread. I'll not claim master tech status by any standard. I'd say just more of a hardhead who was stupid enough to drive 800 miles a week for 15 years. I unintentionally accumulated miles on the E90 far faster than everyone else, so I was the E90 guinea pig... [I grew up in the time where guys my age weren't given a new car and had to afford what I could on a Pizza Hut salary. Lol. It was most likely a form of birth control as I think back on it now; my dad was quite the insightful fellow]. Digression noted...

But to the issue. IIRC there has to be a fuel tank purge test in between driving events as part of a complete driving cycle. My old 80-mile commute was a daily drive cycle. My current 13-mile commute is not, which is why codes don't self clear or stay cleared if I manually clear them. Not a bad tradeoff for a much shorter commute now, potentially living a decade longer .

OK, got it! Yes, they're semi-readily available. Found one out of the three that was badly pitted, the other two were indeed pristine. I bought a new pipe which was kind of pricey, but the next one I do I think I'll just get a new gasket and O ring and hope for the best! Here's the install write up on it: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2035346

It's pretty straightforward, like removing the front bumper cover but on a smaller scale!!! I think you can pull it off :-)

I don't think so. It has none of the M Sport options on it and no record of the front end being replaced by previous owners. Of course I picked it up from a dealer, so they tend to lose all prior paperwork.

After 12.5 years of excellent service, I passed the E90 on to my youngest son.

Unbelievably, this was the 2nd most reliable car I’ve had in my life (after an ‘86 Integra).

While the car is still like new inside, outside, and in operation, age and a creaking back meant moving to something a bit more upright and cushy.

Its been a great 12.5 years, and we’re hoping he will get another 12.5 out of it going forward.

Old and new are pictured below:

wowie!

well done strada - this is one of the best DIY write-ups out there; it's detailed w/pics yet not overtly-wordy....it sounds like the demon-bolt is really difficult - well done; so the actual oil cooler is integrated into the oil filter housing, correct? the actual heat exchanger looks like a plate & frame heat exchanger with stacked plates, correct? so the upgrade did not have an oil cooler heat exchanger mounted in the RF wheel well, correct? my 335is has that type.

It's pretty straightforward, like removing the front bumper cover but on a smaller scale!!! I think you can pull it off :-)
thanks for the word of encouragement - where did you source the red button and do you need to disconnect the battery or perform any electrical pre-work before working on the start button?
