The following is by far the easiest and most convenient way to pull your 1b file from your car and generate an FSC update code for your BMW CIC navigation unit (at least for me) and I haven't come across any other method that is easier.

Tools required:

-one usb stick.
- 1b.zip: Attached below.
- “bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip“: Download Windows version from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lW0...ew?usp=sharing or directly from Jaeger's thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464
- Maps.zip: Attached below.

“1b.zip” contains the files necessary to pull the 1b file from your car via USB, “bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip“ contains the FSC generator (a big thanks to user Jaeger and I hope he doesn't mind me using his generator as my preferred choice for generating fsc codes) and “MAPS.zip“ contains different map versions covering the most popular regions (North America, Europe and OZ/New Zealand).

First step: Pull 1b file from your car via usb stick.

1. Unpack the ZIP file (1b.zip) to the root of an empty USB stick
2. Power on your car (ignition on is fine, you don't need to start your car) and wait until the navigation system has started completely
3. Put the USB stick in the USB port in the glove box (do not use the usb port found in the middle console).
4. Wait for around 30 seconds
5. Remove the USB stick from the port in the glove box and put it in your (windows) computer
6. Check if the file 1b.hex is present on the USB stick (if not go to step 2 and try another USB stick). The file should be exactly 319 bytes in size and you can check your file by opening it with a hex editor such as HxD https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

Second step: Generate your FSC code using Jaeger's FSC generator

1. Unpack the ZIP file (bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip) in Windows/Mac (after unpacking wait for a couple of seconds for the generator to automatically download the file Lookup.xml")
2. Open the FSC generator by clicking on "BMW_CIC_FSC_Generator.exe" and select the 1b file you pulled from your car as described above.
3. Select desired map type, region and version to generate your code.

Last step: Download desired map version and install on USB stick:

1. Unpack the ZIP file (MAPS.zip) and click on your desired map version (make sure you have a bit torrent client installed) to download it.
2. Put the downloaded map on an empty USB stick (just make sure it has been formatted using fat32).

Plug the usb stick containing your downloaded map version in the glove box of your car and switch your ignition on. After a couple of minutes your CIC will prompt you to update your map version. Just enter your generated code and the update will commence automatically.
That's it, you're done and good to go!

Big thanks again to Jaeger for his excellent fsc code generator http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464.

Update: Maps.zip now contains a direct torrent download link for north america premium 2018-1 which supports both updating via dvd or alternatively via usb stick.
Absolutely fantastic tutorial and walkthrough, worked a treat on my BMW F30 2012 and now I've updated from Road Maps Europe Premium 2012 to Road Maps Premium 2018! Everything went exact to plan from getting the Hex file to generating a valid FSC code to installing maps - only thing that took ages was the actual maps download; 22GB 😳😭 I'm fairly new to Bimmerpost so a big thank you to the OP for providing such an easy walkthrough on something I'm sure BMW charge an arm and a leg for, you are a credit to the community!

I followed the instructions in the OP and everything worked perfectly on my 09 e90 335i. Thanks!

I saw in a post in this thread that this will be the last year for cic updates. Can anyone confirm this? I haven't been able to find any other info.

This is for a 2010 E92.
I have 2019-1 maps which id like to update.
In the FSC generator there isn't an option for 2019-1 Europe premium west, does this matter when wanting to generate the code or can i select 2018-2 instead?

Thanks

Thanks to this thread, I was able to update my maps to 2018.

I updated it because my GF's newer house, and my favorite food spot weren't in my 2013 version. And they still aren't in the 2018

Thanks a lot for the thorough guide!
Updated 2010 maps on my 2011 528i to North America Premium 2018-1.
It took around 45 min to complete.

The last map update for CIC was supposed to be 2018-1. The update you have is probably for NBT.

I believe its CIC. There was a 2018-2 as well, now 2019-1.

2010 335i E93 with CIC, does not pull the 1B file.

Tried 2 different USB Sticks, both FAT32 formatted.
When you extract the 1b.zip you get a 1b folder with instructions and the copie_scr.sh file. Do you have to put the 1b folder in the root of the USB or the files? I tried both anyway...

What could be the problem?

EDIT: Tried some other cheap USB sticks and they worked now lol

Same problem here but different car. My car is a 2009 e60 30d with CIC. I can't pull the 1B file.

I have tried it with 3 different USB sticks (fat32,exfat,fat(Mac)). Shall I put the 1b folder to the root of the USB or only the copy_scr_sh file?

Any idea what is the problem?

Thanks,

Tamas

Thanks!

All sorted - update took about 40 mins thanks to these files, this makes it so easy! Getting the FSC with the 1b file was a breeze!

I'm on 2019-1 now using this file: https://mega.nz/#!zjQFnYrB!8783EHZoW...7d6gAWhk7Jd-lA

You have to first reorganise the map files as per the attached screenshot into the different folders and then on the usb, rename each usb stick folder to pkgdb when the CIC asks for the next USB stick.

That was so easy! I'm happily on 2019-1 now!

Put the usb stick in for a minute, take it out, put it in a again.
Do it a few times. I found 30 seconds was not long enough.
Also, check your USB does not have any extra partitions and that it is FAT32.
The .sh file goes in the root of the usb, no other files needed.

Need some help please guys, I'm at my wits end!

Have gone to the effort of getting the ENET cable and following the instructions, successfully FTPd in and got the required generalpersistencydata file (attached). But just can't work out how to get my 1b hex file from that, the hex values in my file don't match the required as per the instructions, and it fails to generate an fsc code (file corrupt error). The USB trick method generates the same file.

If anyone can manage to generate the correct 1b or code from that file, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

CIC not updating

Hi all,

First of all, I'm fairly new to this forum and also to BMW world. I followed the guide of the TS and everything went well. I get the hex file, code generated, map downloaded and now trying to update.
I extract the rar file and put the content of the USB1 folder to my same usb drive used for the 1b file. In the USB the config.nfm and pkgdb in it. However, when I insert the usb back to the glovebox, the update prompt not appearing. Please kindly advice. I had tried with 5 different USB thumb drives. They all are FAT32 format and working well.

Thanks in advance. The attached is the current map version of my CIC and I'm trying to update to North America 2018-1[IMG][/IMG]
