Truth be told, if you're not a N54 owner yet, why would you want to be? Unless it's because the car is selling for some stupid price like 22k or something. The 10 yr. warranty is misleading in that the dealership makes you jump through hoops to get any service on this matter. |

My HPFP just went at 44,000km. I "had" a Dinan stg. 2 flash but now I'm back to stock until Dinan comes out with their next software update to go with the new fuel pump and BMW's DME update (sucks)

I found a used 335i I am interested in. My commute is short and HPFP doesn't scare me off considering how much more fun a 335 is compared to a 328 or 325. I read most of this thread and can't find anything regarding how to tell if and how many times the HPFP has been replaced. The Carfax shows service history but only with checking/replacing tires and brakes, is there anyway to tell just by looking at the car itself? I'd assume the BMW dealer doing the work would have these records, but the particular car I'm looking at is at a VW dealership and the records reported on Carfax are from an indy shop.
Edit: It's a 2007 E92 if that makes any difference... Last edited by BTM; 04-09-2010 at 03:13 PM.. |

If it was done under warranty then I would think you should be able to find the information at a BMW dealership service department. I dont think anyonew would have the HPFP replaced by an indy shop because they would have to pay for it out of pocket .
Only BMW service departments can do Warranty workand they are all tied together through a computer system no matter whee you go, Big Brother is there.

Thanks, I see your point about not bringing an HPFP failure to an indy...the car does not appear to be CPO (like I said it's at a VW dealership). Is it possible to bring it in to a BMW dealer and see if it qualifies to be certified? If so, is there a charge? It is just out of the original 4yr/50k warranty. Does it have to be CPO for the 120k HPFP warranty, or is that regardless of the car's warranty state?
Edit: I found a link to the SIB, it seems they are supposed to put a sticker on the B-pillar with the code 518 when they replace an HPFP, can anyone who's had theirs replaced verify this? Last edited by BTM; 04-09-2010 at 04:57 PM.. |

take the VIN number to any BMW dealer and ask them to pull the service history for you. Most will do it, particularly if you tell them you plan to use them for service if you buy the car.
Don't buy a BMW, particularly a 335i, without the service history. Just DON'T!~ |

Just joined the forum. I've been lurking here for awhile and finally put a deposit on an '07 E90 335i yesterday. The car was previously leased and is a factory buyback under the California lemon law. Didn't realize that they'd do a buyback on a lease. I guess it's more of an early termination.
Anyway, I decided to take my chances that the new 943 HPFP is a permanent fix, and paying less than $21k for a very clean car with 30k miles was the deciding factor. Just to be sure though I'm keeping my '06 Mazda 6 as a backup! I do know my car had the HPFP replaced (probably several times I would assume) but I'm not sure if has the 881 or the new 943 pump. Can you see the HPFP part number by looking under the hood? Last edited by Zippy7575; 04-10-2010 at 10:39 AM.. |

See the post above yours. Get the service history from the dealer before you pay for the car! It will have everything you need to know. |

Thanks for the advice chromis, going to check out something local this afternoon
Edit: Checked the car out, fires up right away (no long crank), checked work done under warranty at local BMW dealer and the pump has never been replaced. The cam and solenoid (?) was replaced however at ~30k, car now has 40k on it and warranty until December of this year. Hopefully my Hyundai sells soon so I can get into a 335i, damn what a fun car Last edited by BTM; 04-11-2010 at 11:54 PM.. Reason: Crank? I meant cam... |

According to the service manager I spoke to yesterday at Motorwerks in Barrington, you can't.

If you take the VIN in they should be able to show you the service records. The guy I talked to (service manager) couldn't print them for me because he said it was against the rules, but had no problem letting me look at the screen and take notes.
Have you read this thread? If not, I suggest taking the 20-30min to do so in detail, I learned a lot from it. From what I can gather, if you are experiencing any symptoms (long cranks, 1/2 engine lights, etc) I would avoid a long trip before being checked out. |

Yeah, have been following the whole HPFP issue for several weeks when I first started wondering why so many 335i with title issues were showing up on E-Bay. I've always wanted one and it seemed to me a great way to get a good deal on one. I suspect the factory has finally fixed the problem with the new part and am willing to take a chance on it. If not there may be one more 335 back on E-Bay in a few months!

Good luck man, I'm assuming you've had the software update done as well (though most are convinced it's snake oil...). Is it safe to say that it seems most everyone receiving pumps lately have been getting 943s? Seems the 881s have "left the building" so to speak...

Bought my car a couple months back. I checked service records before the purchase and it was clean. My HPFP just failed and it is being replaced as we speak. Not sure if they will update the software too. So glad I went CPO instead of private party.
Like others, I really hope the 943 is THE FIX. Will keep you posted. |

You realize that even if your car is out of warranty the HPFP isn't until 120k, but yea, I wouldn't be interested in one without warranty either for the other things that could go wrong...
