Ah people always assume those working with Damos are a tuner. There's also alot of people who have damos and don't know what they have. Of course you can make your own when your an INCA user. Hope that helps

Interesting post you made on another forum yesterday: A large proportion of 'tuners' have professional tuners supply them their tuning, you might find this list of tuners supply a large proportion of the others; http://www.evc.de/en/service/links.asp Seems you know a lot about the tuning world and whats used even though you wont say if you are a tuner or not ![]() |

Viv,
Have you arranged for the boxing ring at Buxton during UK5? It could help! As moderator you will naturally be in the middle of the ring keeping the warring factions under control.

The boxing ring was originally going to be organised for Steve & Calvin, but perhaps I should now have another one set-up. Right now, I'm in the mood to get in there & do some punching & Blanka-style electrocution myself. ![]() ![]() ![]() Viv |

Agree with that. There's a good reason why no single winner is possible, which has never quite been fully articulated in an otherwise interesting thread: there's an entire spectrum of optimal outcomes, based on how owners evaluate the performance vs. reliability vs. warrantied reliability considerations. Some of this discussion has bogged down on how to evaluate the first of these, e.g. dyno vs. dragstrip. But the second and third element are even more difficult to measure: the only player with truly comprehensive data on the reliability tradeoffs is BMW, and they ain't sharing, for reasons which are understandable if not entirely forgivable. Add the legal dimension of realistic enforceability of either manufacturer or tuner liability for equipment failure, and it's truly a crapshoot. That's not to give up. Despite the quality-control problems from frivolous or flamebait posts, threads such as this are valuable. It's up to every individual reader to separate the wheat from the chaff, but I'd be surprised if any reader who (a) is genuinely interested in exploring the purchase of a chip (& installation service) and (b) has read the thread all the way through, hasn't received some information they didn't already have on how to select a vendor. As for me, I'm still interested in more data. I'd like a chipped 335d that delivers more than factory performance, but leaves the reliability equation substantially intact. One shouldn't need to challenge the legal coverage of BMW or 3rd-party warranties if one is looking for cost-effective enhanced-yet-not-quite-ultimate performance. Unfortunately, I also recognise that the aftermarket tuners don't necessarily win by marketing at that not-quite-ultimate frontier. That, combined with their limited market, imposes inherent limits on the validity of their "R&D" results. So much of what I'll evaluate, before plonking down hard-earned coin, is inherently anecdotal. And I gotta say, I pay attention to frustration stories. To pick just one example from the foregoing thread, I'm never going to send my business to "Miguel of Portugal". And that's not necessarily a reflection on tuning skills, but on customer management ones. |
