I'm curious too how Seattle is getting prioritized in the list. My car has until now lived outside, uncovered for its entire life, and has seen its fair share of moisture.
It is now garaged though, and the paint is looking better than it has in years. While not driving it, I've: Washed, Clayed, Washed, Meguiars Ultimate Compound'ed, Klasse All-In-One'd, and Klass High Sealant Glaze'd (twice). About to apply some Pinnacle Souveran. I did however find some rust in the rim around the inside of the trunk where the water runs off, as well as in the engine bay, which again makes me wonder how Seattle is getting prioritized. My dealer, BMW of Bellevue, did offer a loaner, but sent me to Enterprise and gave me a crappy base model Hyundai Accent that wasn't even clean.

Wait for it...
How many? Literally 1 in 4 cars on the road. "The U.S. government announced earlier this month that 17 automakers ? including Toyota ? are adding 35 million to 40 million Takata inflators to the 28.8 million that have already been recalled after multiple investigations showed more vehicles could be affected." "The first phase of the expansion covers vehicles from the 2011 model year or older that are registered in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands."

Takata filed for BK today in Japan and the US. http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/25/news...tcy/index.html

Many of the affected cars will be off the road naturally before they ever get fixed. Ultimately the recall did little to protect the public since you can't remove 10s of million of cars off the road and many are still not "fixed". People are still driving them as-is and will continue to do so until the cars are out of service. While some cars were fixed the ultimate impact is to negatively impact the value of cars for owners. Nice work Takata and regulators.

It's no big deal unless a Takata airbag kills you. Or you own a car with a Takata airbag and can't sell it.

Relax, the sky is not falling. Why would you not be able to sell it?

I would be reluctant to buy a car that would kill me for no reason. Of course, that's just me.

10 people have died, none of them in a BMW. I believe all of those that have died are from the early (2001-2002) bags that were built without a desiccant pack. You are more likely to be killed by debris falling from space.

Plus if someone else does get killed, defense counsel will say "Why were they driving the car? They were notified of the problem."

Strange that BMW can't seem to get parts, here at Acura, we have no problems. We get inflators by the pallet shipped to us. |

Hard for me to reconcile "should be happening" with "not a big issue" when referring to such an enormous safety based recall. It's either a big issue that warranted the regulatory reaction or it isn't.

Because in the short term they are fine. Would not want a 20 year old one though.
