And the original 924 Porsche was pitiful; it took almost a decade for Porsche to get the 924 (nee 944) right...

My first Porsche was a 924 turbo-loaded and it felt great compared to what was available at the time. Ran like a champ-of course got into a 911sc soon after...

It sure was. My buddy had one back in the mid, late 80’s. The thing didn’t handle well and it was so underpowered when you flipped the AC on the parasitic loss was immense. Felt like the car lost 20% of its HP. More VW then P-car. He was envious of my Mustang GT’s V8 grunt at the time. He regretted that purchase.

It's down to this car or the next m4 after Toyota dropped the ball on the Supra. I want to experience owning a mid engine sports car, but those side intakes are ugly and I'm hoping that they are exaggerated by camouflage. Come GM, don't eff this up! Oh, and I hope the rumored twin turbo is announced soon too, as I'd rather wait on that if it's not too far out.
Going to be sad to see my current m4 go. Everytime I drive it these days I enjoy it a little more than usual because I feel as though this may be our last time together this summer and I've had a lot of fun with it. |

OK GM, my list of gripes so far ... at least from my own conjectures or heard rumors.
1. 36% front weight distribution (a rumor but it's GM so who knows) 2. Those leaf springs have to go (but GM loves push rod so leaf springs are like old-habit-die hard sort of thing) 3. Those side air intakes look like giant fish mouths (did they outsource the side scoop design to Nascar aero engineers lols?) 4. The rear looks like they were side jobs from laid off Camaro team engineers. 5. Whatever I would prefer driving a properly designed front engine car than some half-a$$ GM mid engine Fiero disaster. |

Less then a week to go for the reveal, he’s a short clip of a pair of 8’s. Not so good in poker but a fine hand on the road.

1. There's no logical way this car is having a 36/64 weight distribution. That's old school 911 territory. Let's use some common sense. 2. Leaf springs. ![]() None to be seen here. Also, while base LT2 will be a pushrod engine, the Z06 LT7 will be a twin turbo DOHC V8. 3/4. I'll wait to see the car in person. 5. This is the first Corvette since the C4 that wasn't under threat of cancellation or delay due to lack of funds. I'd be optimistic based on the performance and reputation of the last 3 generations. Given how fast a Z06, ZR1, ZL1-1LE, etc. is, I'd say they know what they are doing in 2017.

I'll reserve judgment until reveal, but that rear looks too much like a Camaro IMO

WSJ: ‘I Refuse to Call It a Corvette.’ GM Moves the Engine, Revs Up a Revolt
Hilariously, in this article, the avatar of Corvette purists who are scared to death of the C8 "ruining the brand" is this guy, who fits the "Corvette guy" stereotype to a T: These poor saps don't realize that the stereotype of the 60-year-old-floridian fat white dude wearing a jimmy buffet shirt has, and will, hurt the brand more than any engine configuration ever could. Shaking this public perception is part of the reason GM is making radical changes to the Vette. Because the majority of people who buy Corvettes today will be dead in less than 20 years, and so will the vette unless they take drastic steps.
