I am using the Bosch FR7NPP332 spark plugs in my car.

I was comparing the specs between the Bosch FR7NPP332 and the NGK ILZFR6D11 and other than the obvious (platinum center electrode vs. iridium) the heat rages are different. The NGK's is 6 and the Bosch 7. Also a different gap .044 vs .040. Im not sure if the heat range between the two are actually the same since the manufactures use a different numbering system or if one is a colder plug. Does anyone have any hard data on that? Both Three_Thirty and I appear to have a similar issue with a pinging type sound under partial load between 1.5k and 3k RPMS. Im going to switch back to the D11's from the 332's just to see if there's any difference. Its a crap shoot, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Well, also very interested to know, but I had this pinging (noise) issue well before I fitted these Bosch plugs - actually this is why I fitted new plugs to begin with. The old plugs were of course the original BMW OEM plugs and still had 35k km left on them according to the service info. I think there is something else going on with my car that is causing this noise, but I am keen to hear if you notice a change with yours after you have fitted these other plugs!

Changed my plugs today. They aren't too bad, 82k miles on these.

So just to be clear if I buy NGK OEM do I need to change the gap or not?

Replaced my OE plugs after 89K miles (original owner). It was starting kinda rough on cold starts and it completely fixed the issue. I used NGK part number 1208 (ILZFR6D11), which was the exact same plug that came out of it. Only 10.99 each at O'reilly. There's a youtube video which helped out a little bit too. Be careful, i broke a couple of clips that hold the wire loom together under the cabin air filter. Easy job, maybe 1 to 1.5 hours total...including the trip to O'reilly.

I'm going with Bosch FR7NPP332. O'Reilly Auto Parts has a good deal on them: $6.29 each plus tax. I paid $41 OTD. They didn't have them in stock, so I needed to wait one day.

I will report back when it's done.

I have a 06/05 build E90 330i and want to change the plugs. After reading 11 pages of this thread it appears that the NGK (1208) ILZFR6D11 is the one to use, even though it has been superseded by a newer version.

However, what about using the NGK Iridium Ix Spark Plug (LFR6AIX-11)? Is it safe to use?

for 2006 bmw 325I. it shows two spark plugs

1 the ILZFR6D11
the other LFR6AIX-11 BUT it shows this item is not up to par with O.E specifications??? Also at the stats of the plugs they show that the AIX-11 has worse life span but better gas mileage? confused and need to buy plugs tonight.

After speaking with my local independent BMW service center I'm going to with the 6D11's (# 1208). That's what they recommended.

I ordered the IX NGK's because NGK list them as better performing but not lasting as long. I have no problems changing out the plugs ever 50,000k miles instead of 100,000k miles (whatever it is) if I get noticeably better performance, so I didn't really see a downside here. And with it being less expensive, was wondering why I didn't already have these plugs in my car.

I read more. The ILZFR6D11 is more expensive because it uses platinum or more platinum than the LFR6AIX-11. Probably here "•Platinum disc welded to backside of ground electrode provides long life", I think the IX is just nickel. Probably also why the ILZFR6D11 last longer. And the performance increase of the IX (claimed) compared to the ILZFR6D11 is probably based on the IX having an extended projection compared to the ILZFR6D11 only being projected, which is probably why they can't list the XI as meeting OEM specs....and also it not being rated to go 100k.

< The projection of a spark plug is measured as the distance from the end of the metal shell to the tip of the centre electrode as shown here.

A projected spark plug protrudes into the combustion chamber further and provides higher ignitability and improved performance. Simply this can be understood by representing the combustion chamber as a circle. A projected spark plug in effect produces a spark in the middle of the circle (or combustion chamber) allowing for an even flame spread. Conversely, a non-projected spark plug means the flame spread is not even.

After reading about problems with some extended projection sparkplugs causing pre-detonation, I decided to just cancel the order for the IX and go with the regular OEM NGK's. That quote was from NGK themselves and I don't understand how they say "A projected spark plug in effect produces a spark in the middle..." I would then have to assume that the extended projection is farther away from the middle. I dunno, but I think the simplest and safest thing for me to do is just go with the ILZFR6D11 .

According to RealOEM this is the latest updated plug unless you go with the latest updated NGK.

oreillyauto has the best price on this plug that I've seen. They just had free shipping as well...
