BMW vs Truck for the golf weekend?

Took the truck. Glad I did. Hazy, hot, humid round with thunderstorms. Got soaked day one. Played day two without the rain.

The back of the pickup is just fine for letting stuff dry off. I would have hated putting wet, stinky golf clothes and gear in the Bimmer to dry off!

FWIW, not a great idea for a senior citizen to play 4 consecutive days in this type of weather. Taking today off before 18 tomorrow and 18 on Wed.

Bak flip tri fold hard top. A bit more secure than a vinyl top.

Hang a bungee across the rear tie down loops and use it for a clothes line.

Getting close to the end of my companies golf league. Have 3 more Wednesdays. Bummer!

Today, the weather is calling for 94 and sunny. Tomorrow, 83 and sunny. hopefully the humidity will be gone and my shoulder will feel better!

I love my Titleist TSR3 driver (with LA Golf DJ Series shaft) but I can’t wait to swap the head for the new Titleist GT3 when it’s available this month. Tests show more consistent spin performance across the face.

I have never been able to consistently hit the TSR3. I have a TSR2 and more recently a TSR4 driver. Now interchanging shafts and weights. You can drive yourself crazy with this stuff. I put the variables into a Google spreadsheet to track which combinations of head vs shaft vs driver settings vs weights work best (for distance). Oddly enough, I am finding that a stiff flex, low launch shaft is giving me better results than a regular flex medium launch shaft for my 80mph +/- swing speed. I should be playing a high launch senior flex shaft, but I could never get it to work.

On a sad note, I am struggling to hit my driver the same distance I used to hit my 3 wood. Time is unforgiving...

Yeah the old equipment hit it farther. I had an old Taylor Made burner series 2 wood I could hit 275 off the deck in the 90s. Now I'm lucky to get 260 with a state of the art driver. Those manufacturers just can't get it right.

Played pretty bad last night.

Played like shit for the first two holes then got all 5's then after.

My first two drives were straight missles....went to go hit and couldn't find the balls. Happened on the first two holes and I was like WTF! We searched forever and couldn't find either of them. Pretty much put me in a bad mood but finally snapped out of it on the 3rd hole.

Gotta love this game...lol

Just got home from playing in a group tournament at a wonderful private course called Pinnacle Peak CC in Scottsdale. Good condition and decent (for AUgust) weather. Only about 102 when we finished.

I had to scramble a lot toward the end cause I was tired but managed a 73. Off my handicap for the day a net 68 which I have heard was not the winner. Still very happy with my round.

Played a nice round at a new-to-me resort course re-opened in 2023. Good condition, great weather in the low 70s and low humidity. Windy but it didn’t detract.

As usual I had quite a few good drives, a few brilliant approach shots and exactly two good putts. As we all know, putting is what matters.

The scorecard isn’t worth talking about but it was a great day on the course.

Z-grip has molded grooves in addition to cords. Velvet looks like traditional corded grips.

I decided to stick with my existing Golf Pride full cord grips. I tried a few grips at the local golf Mecca store and wasn’t persuaded that new grips will make a meaningful difference in my game.

THAT is what golf is all about. Spending time outside with some pals. And the game is fun when we realize we aren't pros. Enjoy the good shots and laugh at the bad ones.

Odd thing happened on the course yesterday.

Hole 10 - 370yd par 4, I drove the ball 250, was sitting 120 out, friend drove few yards shorter ~125 out. He proceeds to hit his wedge - holes it out for an eagle (I do my typical hit the green and 3 putt bogie).

Cool as that may be, as we go tee off on hole 11, group behind us playing 10 - guy in their group starts screaming, apparently also knocked it in for eagle around 125 out.

I've never seen back to back eagles like that before. Pretty wild.

Sad part - played my worst game of the year. Friend beat me, kid beat me...and my handicap just keeps sliding (now a 15.1, usually 13.x). Was a gorgeous day here...and I didn't take advantage.

^fun stuff on b2b eagles!

Tee time this weekend on a short course, same resort I played last weekend. I can get the ball off the tee mostly straight and 250-280yds most of the time. The short course will help me with the part of the game that matters!

Is it correct that McIlroy doesn’t carry hybrids or fairway woods? I looked up his club list and the info was hard to follow (expected interwebs junk).

Looks like he carries D, 3W, 5W, 4-9, 4 wedges and putter. That makes 14 clubs.

Is the list right?

Fun stuff. I was playing in a skins game once and eagled a par 5 (short 465 yards). And LOST the hole. Yup. Guy I'm playing with had an albatross. Golf is weird.

Not weird enough that I ever had an albatross though. Come on golf gods lend a hand.

My 83 year old father never played my course, Rock Spring in West Orange NJ, so on Fathers Day weeks ago I promised to buy us a round together. Finally happening tomorrow. Really looking forward to it.

Played a 7-hole short course today. It was fun if not too challenging. I remain convinced the putter needs more work!

Drive for show, putt for dough 🤷🏼

Had a couple rounds booked for this weekend, but the weather isn’t cooperating 😕
