Little Update

BMS is waiting on some parts to turn up so they can get back to work on the PCB/firmware but that has given them time to work on the new enclosure. This is the front-runner.

OMG, copying even the case... That is so wrong. Next thing you know the DTC switch will be used for map switching.

I've got a good name for it, it should be called the Faux-cede. After the criticism of BMS copying Shiv, i would have steered clear of any closure that looked like the one in the Procede. I don't know the merits of the Terry copied Shiv debate (nor do I care to discuss them). But this one move gives extra creditability to those claims.

This is nothing new its evolution that is how we as end users benefit from this. This will snow ball into others to come up with better tunes at a inexpensive price. Just look at how car manufactures copy each other and computer equipment and computer gaming industry do the same thing . Look at the evolution of the playstation and then microsoft copying and making the XBOX. What ever the outcome it just benefits the enduser. At the end its just what you choose to use thats the bottom end.

COKE OR PEPSI 7UP OR SPRITE MC DONALDS OR BURGER KING we can go on all day but we make the choices which to buy.

To some degree you are correct. However, when technology is (in rough terms) duplicated and sold at a much lower price than the original owners, the ROI to the originator is dramatically reduced which means less profits and eventualy leads to fewer innovations.
If you take this one step further, the pioneer leaves the market in which it created or developed and the ones left tend to stagnate because they were not the originators/pioneers (or due to diminished competition) and innovation ceases or crawls. Short term gains, long term... not so much.
Larger markets tend to benefit from competition, smaller niches tend not to. The end user generally does experience the benefit in the beginning but this diminishes relatively quickly.
BTW, I hate it when companies copy my innovations.

I understand that there are few new things under the sun. What I am speaking about are the cosmetics. Pepsi doesn't write their name in white cursive horizontally on a red can. That is something that is easily identifiable as Coke's "thing". Likewise, Burger King doesn't have a big yellow B turned on its side. You've never heard someone say "I see the golden arches with a line on the bottom".

Burger King also doesn't trash the amount of salt they put on the fries as being overkill or unhealthy, only to copy the exact recipe for their own fries a few months later and call it "new and improved."

BMS JB? CANBus

They do almost look alike. But it's still a prototype. We still don't know if this will be the final version.

My question to BMS, won't plastic be cheaper to manufacture than aluminum to keep cost down?

Its market retention. If your current customers are requesting certain parameters, whether your product needs it or not to perform, you should adhere to your customers in order to keep them around.. The more happy customers you have the more word of mouth you gain. Enter more sales..
The 5 of you in this thread that are worried about what BMS did or said in the past only hits your nerves. The new people on this board or the thouusands of people who don't come on this board could really give 2 sh*ts about the drama. Bottom line, this product will sell and continue to sell due to the cost factor, customer service and word of mouth.

BMS is looking at off the shelf aluminum enclosures to keep costs down. The plastic G3 case is great for that board but since this one has a full power supply and some other higher wattage components it has to be a metal case of some sort.

The magic is really with the PCB design and when complete perhaps a real EE can look at both boards and determine if they are similar or if one is using a higher level of technology with more modern, faster, and generally superior components.

You mean high wattage components will be mounted on the casing ? This will make the production unessesary complex.

No they mount on the PCB which generates heat and from my understanding needs a metal case to help heat-sink it. Those design elements really aren't my department.

Looks a lot like the Megasquirt case I used to have.

I'm sure most cases are manufactured by the same company.
