Still need to do the e90 335 rears tomorrow.

Old vs new.
How are you liking the Akebonos? I tried them briefly but hated how soft the brake pedal was

Just the south of England, and not near the coast, so nothing that would encourage that sort of wear, although the state of UK roads these days is shocking.
Yeah three years old and around 30k miles. I’ve no idea what brand they were as the usual garage we use fitted them. I’m not best pleased with the obvious lack of quality.
However, they’re in the bin where they belong. It’s like driving a different car; so quiet and solid-feeling.

Another opg!

Took advantage of the mid-week holiday and dove in to OPG on the Arktik car. Got most of the way done, will finish today after work.

While I was there I had some cheap front end links to install. Found when the shocks were replaced, whomever did it, did not bolt the sensor bracket back correctly and it has been rubbing a small notch in the end link! Funny I didn't hear or feel anything while driving, but it's all sorted now.

How tough were the hear CAs? I need to do a full rear end rebuild with subframe and guibos etc, but just can't get the motivation to do it!

After getting very little response for local fender rolling providers, I watched multiple videos and then ordered an Eastwood fender roller. Any tips other than a heat gun and slowly working the fender?

pretty easy just depends on your corrosion. def need to soak in penetrate regardless for atleast a day. my passenger side was super rusty and the guide rod bolt at the subframe was frozen into the bushing so i had to cut it. drivers side nothing was seized and was a breeze !

Infrared digital thermometer is a must.
I did the rears on my 08 535xi years ago and iirc, I heated to 120 degrees with waving on a section. Slow and efficient will get you there. Heat past where you intend to roll.
Absolutely no problems when I did and it was the first time for me.

I just ordered a digital thermostat and I saw a video where the guy said 130 degrees, his garage was filled with great cars and the results were impressive. I have a few days to do more homework and it looks like patience is key.

Got a low coolant light this AM before stating it- looks like the cap vented off about 0.5l of coolant? There’s blue residue all around the cap. Weird. No leaks / coolant residue aside from that.

Had the same issue with my F10. I thought these were closed systems, but maybe the extreme heat we’ve been having over here causes some venting?

It has been a few since I did it, good thing you checked.

Just keep checking with the thermometer so it doesn't cool down on you.

You have to adjust the head in between rolls so it slowly flattens. This you probably already know but the more vids you watch the merrier.

This is the video that gave me the most information, I plan on following his technique as much as possible.

That and setting the roller to start rolling at a shallow angle then slowly working the head more and more vertical to fold the lip more and more back. Don’t start at 45,try less and work your way up. Also you will have to do it in sections because the arches are NOT a perfectly round radius, so towards the ends you have to extend the arm to make contact, and then shorten as you come back. Wasn’t expecting that.

It was a balmy 109 in the shade last week, so no need for a heat gun here, lol.

Did my fronts last week, doing my rears right now. With style 95s it’s a must.

I got the mishimoto one and it’s worked just fine.directions for assembling it aren’t the greatest but I figured it out.

So as I mentioned above I decided to roll the rear fenders more, someone had already rolled them to about 45 at the top, but I needed more clearance farther around.

Whilst I had rear wheels off back there and was on jackstands, figured might as well install the bigger brakes too.

Tip for finding the parking brake adjuster. I couldn’t see it even with light thru lug hole.

But once I had rotor off, I noted that if you turn the rotor retaining screw to top/straight up, the adjuster lines up with the adjacent lug hole.

The rear wheels are rubbing slightly on potholes and imperfections in the roads, I ordered the fender roller and will DIY late next week.

Finally a couple pics to show size, the 340/336 look “correct” behind those 19”s, not like the wimpy 300/300 (yes 2006 didn’t even get 312 front).

Also finally got to install one of my Father’s Day gifts in the garage. Parking stoppers from Griots Garage.

Changed the cabin air filter (it’s been a year). It was DEFINITELY time. FCP Euro for the win. Can’t recommend the micron blue filters enough, BTW. Really nice in dusty environments.
