I'll start this by saying I am a dog owner and lover. It's a horrible choice, but I don't think you should risk additional financial stress for treatment that may or may not work. We faced the same choice for a rescue we had for 9 years - developed a hole in her lung. Vet said that she was in pain, the surgery might not be successful, and the cost would be way more than we could afford. As hard as it was, and I remember the whole thing like it was yesterday, we put her down. This probably won't be a very popular opinion, but it's an honest one.

I think most of us do the best we can for our pets. But sometimes, that’s the best or only option.

I can agree with this. Had to make the tough decision to put one of my cats down last year after her needing expensive medical proc. that didn't have the best chance even if it went perfectly as they hoped, through multiple processes like the person who asked. I still hate the fact that I had to do it and it makes me sad whenever I think about it, but it was probably for the best... I hope

Exactly 3 weeks after I took Winston to the dog ER in NC, we were off to the dog ER in West Palm for Ginger on Saturday night. For the exact same reason resulting in a nearly identical $235 bill for another cone and the same eye medicine. Pretty much all better now but I make her wear a giant cone sometimes because I feel like it.

They are so sweet, especially in that last pic. What was it? Are they scratching their eyes?

Both got picked up after grooming at different groomers in different states and seemed fine. Within a couple of hours they had partially closed / red eyes. Regular drops didn’t resolve. We assume they accidentally irritated them by scratching or rubbing their eyes. Vets said just irritated, no signs of ulcers and gave us something with steroids and antibiotics to help resolve the redness and swelling and any discomfort they may have.

We are super sensitive to eye issues because we had a previous cavalier who went blind in one eye and almost lost the eye from something that seemed to be minor at first. We only saved his eye by taking turns staying awake to give him eye drops every hour, 24 hours a day for a week.

She is a Shih Poo mix. I will be shaving her very soon, completely different looking dog once shaven. Looks like poodle with no hair but more shih Tzu looking with all her hair. Completely hypoallergenic as not a single hair can be even pulled off of her. Only problem with this breed is they are very sensitive to food. Will throw up and get the runs if you change her food or give her scraps or even if she eats something on a walk. She is my 4th dog in life and my first lap dog. Extremely loving dog with a passion for squirrels!
