n55 Harmonic Balancer Removal

I was able to remove the harmonic balancer bolts by just leaving the belt on. It provided enough friction to break the bolts loose. Once the 8x bolts were broken loose, then I took the belt off and removed the balancer.

HPS Cold Air Intake - N55 E90

Installed an HPS cold air intake. This was partly to finish replacing all plastic intake parts with metal parts. It makes that turbo whistle/blowoff noise, which is a little extra, but I like it. Name: PXL_20240719_200005474 (1).jpg

Fixed all the hail and dents all over the new gal and installed this air intake. Had her for a week. She’s purdy.

Took a day off from wrenching on the 325i to take Mrs. 3P and the pupper to dog beach in the 330i, it was a beautiful day for a drive and beach stroll. I swear my dog must have been an undertaker in past life because her favorite thing to do there is bury dead things in the sand.

I finally did it gentleman. The gummi has been pfleged. On both cars. On every panel-to-panel rubber seal I could think of.

Nothing major, but feels better when old yucky parts are replaced - cleaned and fitted the replacement used right rear wheel arch liner this afternoon, it looks like the old right rear had some tyre rubbing, but weirdly the left rear is completely undamaged. Also cleaned as best I could all the dust and grit that got past the damaged edge of the old liner.

I have not had that issue, not even with the ridiculous wind speeds around here. (35-40 is not even uncommon)

Removed my drivers side cup holder to try to reattach the spring. Unfortunately the plastic housing is cracked and the whole thing needs to be replaced - nothing for the spring to attach to. Since it was already on the workbench I used my engineering genius to perform a temporary repair until the new one comes in. If I were a design genius I would have used black string.

Is there a tampon in your cup holder?

Lmao it's just undyed twine that I had laying around, but now that you mention it, some more absorption capabilities might be a useful feature...

Not directly "on my car" but today finally cleaned my garage. Praying this at least cuts down on the number of times I lose a part or tool that was in my hand 2 seconds ago.

Hmm, there's still too many places for a 10mm socket to hide away!

Looks very neat!!

On a roadtrip to Chicago - getting nearly 450 miles to a tank and 24mpg overall. Amazing, the N55.

However, the E90 has picked up a curious issue where if the light switch is in auto, and its dark out, the lights switch off and on for about a minute. If I switch them on manually (and thus lose the adaptive function), they are fine. Weird. Switching back to auto works fine if I wait about a minute.

Will scan the car with ISTA and see whats going on. Hopefully it’s something simple, like a malfunctioning RLS module, and not a FRM going out, which would be supremely annoying.

Wrote another sizable check, this time for the transfer case output shaft seal. No fluid ever dripped on the ground, but when looking underneath the car, I could see the bracket was oily. Didn't want to take any chances with the transfer case.

Then a wash and coat of Meguiar's gold class carnauba plus paste wax. First time trying this wax and it seems solid. We'll see how long it lasts.

Those freakin' 10mm sockets are crafty and cunning at doing the disappearing act!

Did a transmission fluid and differential service. 12-quart genuine fluid 3 stage drain and fill.

Two notable commandments from the E90 bible "One shall not mixeth BMW transmission oils and one shall not replaceth with another oil"

Got to check the magnetic diff plug after 15k miles of use on the replacement diff. Added two tubes of lube gard shudder fix this time and she butters into reverse and smooth all through drive now.

Is there a trans fluid CBS reset for these cars btw?

drove it to BMW UDE for their autocross sessions. I actually liked 540i Xdrives and i5s they had there, pretty fun.
Tested my "anti-lag" on my N55 e90 335i:

walnut blasted today and did the updated low fuel pressure sensor. i had it walnut blasted already like 30k km ago, they weren't thattt bad but i wanted to eliminate any possible issues. cost like 200cad in materials to do myself but in hindsight i could've done it for like 120.

seems to have really smoothed out some part throttle stuff i thought i had to work out in the tune. very curious if it helped timing corrections but i haven't logged yet

Is that Platnium Bronze? Beautiful color!

Ordered a RLS module from a 2016 Z4 - wanted the latest production module available. $20 isn’t too bad.
