On a roadtrip to Chicago - getting nearly 450 miles to a tank and 24mpg overall. Amazing, the N55.

However, the E90 has picked up a curious issue where if the light switch is in auto, and its dark out, the lights switch off and on for about a minute. If I switch them on manually (and thus lose the adaptive function), they are fine. Weird. Switching back to auto works fine if I wait about a minute.

Will scan the car with ISTA and see whats going on. Hopefully it’s something simple, like a malfunctioning RLS module, and not a FRM going out, which would be supremely annoying.

Wrote another sizable check, this time for the transfer case output shaft seal. No fluid ever dripped on the ground, but when looking underneath the car, I could see the bracket was oily. Didn't want to take any chances with the transfer case.

Then a wash and coat of Meguiar's gold class carnauba plus paste wax. First time trying this wax and it seems solid. We'll see how long it lasts.

Did a transmission fluid and differential service. 12-quart genuine fluid 3 stage drain and fill.

Two notable commandments from the E90 bible "One shall not mixeth BMW transmission oils and one shall not replaceth with another oil"

Got to check the magnetic diff plug after 15k miles of use on the replacement diff. Added two tubes of lube gard shudder fix this time and she butters into reverse and smooth all through drive now.

Is there a trans fluid CBS reset for these cars btw?

drove it to BMW UDE for their autocross sessions. I actually liked 540i Xdrives and i5s they had there, pretty fun.
Tested my "anti-lag" on my N55 e90 335i:

walnut blasted today and did the updated low fuel pressure sensor. i had it walnut blasted already like 30k km ago, they weren't thattt bad but i wanted to eliminate any possible issues. cost like 200cad in materials to do myself but in hindsight i could've done it for like 120.

seems to have really smoothed out some part throttle stuff i thought i had to work out in the tune. very curious if it helped timing corrections but i haven't logged yet

Is that Platnium Bronze? Beautiful color!

Ordered a RLS module from a 2016 Z4 - wanted the latest production module available. $20 isn’t too bad.

Yesterday it was a sneaky 11mm socket hiding under the magnetic parts holder pan I bought specifically so I wouldn't lose things. Outsmarted once again D'oh!

Yep, Platinum Bronze. Thanks. It looks different as the day progresses, with sunset bringing out the best tones.

Its close relation to the 10mm has clearly had a bad influence on it!

Replaced windshield washer pump that had failed. Simple job, but ended up cleaning front passenger side wheel well arches since I was in there. Also cleaned off the oil cooler coils. They weren’t very dirty, so I doubt it will make any difference in its cooling efficiency. It was a 10 minute side job, so why not.

TL;DR I now have a more complicated , more expensive way of Bluetooth music for HiFi because I really wanted to use the factory 6FL

The 328 came with 6FL (iPod retrofit using CDC) and I never really used it. It doesn't charge my iPod because its "too new." Since it doesn't have Logic 7 I couldn't retrofit a Mr12Volt bluetooth module; so I opted to try a Bovee1000 Bluetooth iPod adapter. And it works! Kinda. It doesn't recognize anything but Apple Music (I use Spotify). I read online on a Porsche forum that you could trick it into playing Spotify if you played an iTunes song first. So I bought a 69¢ song and sure enough! Unfortunately steering wheel controls still don't work with Spotify and it just shows the original song I played, but its something. I refuse to get rid of Spotify (I have free Hulu with it) so I'm now in the process of manually ripping every CD I own to add to iTunes on my PC, so I can sync it to my phone for when I don't want to deal with using the workaround. Love it

Took it to get state inspection and found out the MHD oscillation fix causes the oxygen sensors to not show ready for emissions. Also found out my left rear tire had terrible wear usually caused by overinflation even though I keep both rear at the same and the right rear tire that drives the car does not show abnormal wear?

Then I washed it and cleaned the interior. Went from xHP Stage 1 to Stage 2 trans tune and it is so much better driving around both in sport mode or D. I do need to do a Trans flush soon.

(330) Well since my new oil pan gasket is leaking, I can safely do 3000mi change intervals before it tells me to add a quart. Currently 20mi over, had to add a quart to last me till the weekend. Also ordered another soft close door lock actuator as the drivers door is finally going out

I'm surrounded by three huge fires, and it has been non-stop ash and soot for the last week. The smoke finally cleared enough to justify washing the car, so jumped on it and did a full wet wash to get all that acidic crap off of it. Did the gummies as well, but didn't have time or light to wax. Hopefully the Xer tomorrow!

Finished the roadtrip! Insane gas mileage - got 27.3 mpg, including city driving and traffic. Amazing.

Fixed the auto headlights too, used RLS module from 2015 works perfectly, after recalibration with INPA (ISTA wants a full scan first and I’m not about to risk my FRM3).

Heading out to garage to replace driveshaft , took day off so I could enjoy the sunshine as well as a long weekend.

All apart but damn thing won't separate from input flange of the differential. Driveshaft has a bad bearing and wobbles on one piece of the yoke. This does not help my shoulder one bit I have had to take a pain break about ever 45 minutes, i'll get it done.

Finished up about three hours. Drives like it should vibration free.. 21 sept 06 was date on driveshaft.

Picked up a nail in one of the rear tires. Always been a hassle sourcing 255/40R17 tires (either always backordered or discontinued) or getting square winter tires stretch installed on the staggered wheels.

Decided to move over to a square setup by picking up two 161 wheels for the rear, so they match the front with new 225/45R17s installed all around.

Hope you stay safe from the fires! She is looking magnificent after the clean, I miss my sparkling graphite metallic 330i!

Gave my white LCI 330i a wash this afternoon so that she is all clean and ready for Monday when she goes in for the Vanos bolts recall...

It's been a problem where I am for years now, simply can't get tyres in that rear size, so I opted for the 18" narrow and wide setup since there's still more tyre options available, for now.
