Interesting. My 335is with a JB4 G5 is a monster. The options and upgrades possible with this tune are impressive. I'll be getting it dyno'ed in the next few days and post up the results. Never have tried the Cobb, never needed to, so I can't really compare the two. I can tell you this, mine would rape a stock 335is right now.

Hey guys, new member here on e90 post but not to BMWs. My wife and I have had 6 which include 3 e9xs. I purchased an "11 335is DCT over the summer after numerous F30 test drives (won't get into that here) . I found this IS member Thread and figured it would be fitting for my 1st post here.

I've been running the latest JB4 G5/ISO for the last few weeks and honestly I'm not impressed either. I was told to run IS specific setting on map 2 with 93 octane with no bolt ons. Map 1 and 5 feel no different then stock and while map 2 feels stronger I've been having trouble with hiccups/lag at 5k rpms when I go WOT. People have suggested that I run an e85 mix and 30% but I own the car and I don't want to have issues down the line.

I like the features that the JB4 offers but I am considering taking it out and going for a pro tune from PTF.

I must say I love the IS. N54 and DCT are amazing. I've been seeing F32s lately and all it had done is reinforced that I made the right decision in the IS purchase.

Welcome aboard. I was in a similar situation when buying my latest car. Was debating between the F30/F32 and the IS. Ended up choosing the IS and I must say it's the best move I ever made. As far as your tune goes. I can't speak for the JB4 but I definitely noticed a big gain when I got my COBB tuned by PTF. I was lucky enough to have it done in person on a dyno. The main reason I went COBB was for it's ease of install/uninstall. Takes minutes with no fiddling under the hood. I couldn't be happier.

Without mods, the unit is a joke. The videos tell it all. Aside from all the bashing I got on the forums, I ran every HEX and custom map that Terry gave me - and coupled it with 91+Booster, 93, 95, 100, E85 Mix, etc. After being stranded in the middle of the Arizona desert with half a tank of E85, a JB4 that completely locked me out of the controls and a brand new car putting along in limp mode - I finally pulled it for good. My vehicle never felt better now

On the flip side, once you start modding you'll need something - regardless if it's Cobb, JB4, Dinan, etc. So, it depends on what your final plans are.

Me??? I'm just waiting for my ///M4

New to the Forum! Thought this would be a good start.

Hello all from Tampa! I am new to the forum and BMW. I have a 2013 335is DCT with no performance Mods although I am in the middle of deciding on a Cobb/JB4.... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated (PM me so we don't take over the thread). Thanks!

I dont think you could go wrong with either one but apparently Cobb works better with DCT cars from what I hear. I had the JB4 G5 iso and before I installed it, I ended up selling it and getting the Cobb since I eventually want to do the PTF tune. Best way to go IMO since it is an actual flash and they will make the map to your cars spec.

Also, think of it this way, if you will. Cell phones. Android (jb4) and iPhone (Cobb). (FWIW, I have an Android but run Cobb on my car haha) Anyways, both will achieve similar if not the same results. Cobb is tried, true, tested, is a solid platform, works out of the box, and is user friendly (similar to an iPhone). JB4 is also tried and tested, and does work out of the box, but with a little more work and knowledge needed. The JB4 will also let you customize a ton of shit on your car but Cobb will not. With that being said, the JB4 could cause a problem a lot easier than the Cobb could, if any. So long story short, both will do the same thing in the end, but just in different ways and different +/-'s for each

The thing I didn't like about the JB4 ISO was the fact that it was all beta -
with a new hex being pushed out almost daily. Great for improving the unit.

Bad to beta test it on everyone that has one, though.

None I originally had plans to do meth once my car was out of warranty along with all my other mods but I have been reading a lot of horror stories with meth. I would just avoid it all together unless you are doing a strict track car.

Thanks. I like this forum! I've been lurking for a little while now and figured it was time to be active here. I debated back and forth for a while between JB4 and Cobb and decided to give the JB4 a shot. I live in NY and hit up the guys at PTF last night for info on setting up a pro tune in person as well. My wife and I will drive down, do the Pro tune and hang in DC for a couple of days (gotta compromise with the women ) How much did the Dyno Pro tune cost you? If you don't mind me asking.

One reason I went JB4 at first was the customer service reviews for BMS are stellar. They have been really good at getting back to me. The Guys are PTF also get great reviews but when I contacted them a few months back either they didn't get back to me or it was a week before they did. It kinda annoyed me to be honest. I also emailed brentuning about a pro tune as the drive up to Massachusetts is about the same as the drive to Maryland.

I saw your you tube videos and should have known then that It was a bad idea for our specific cars. Your 100% right you need mods (FMIC, DP, etc etc) in order to make the JB4 worth anything. Im not prepared to go that route at this point, my car is a DD and I just want a little more power out of it. I have to make sure that I can smoke any e9x M3s that come my way!

I've had nothing but a great experience with PTF. One of them happens to be local so I met up with him in person. I already had the COBB from my previous car. The tune cost me $249 + $100 for the in person tune. If you get it tuned through e-mail that would obviously get dropped. The Dyno was an extra couple hundred for a few hours. That was at a third-party place. Best money I ever spent.

Those enhance the JB4 experience for sure but I had the tune on before all that. It worked well and the car was much faster than stock. Unfortunately I didn't dyno it stock but I have a appointment for a Dynojet Thursday. I'll have the opportunity to try a variety of maps from having the tune off to full on with E35. I figure 30hp for the dp's and intake. Should be fun. Obviously it didn't work for you. Hopefully you recouped some of the $ spent by reselling it. I have a $800 Procede for a N55 that makes a great doorstop.

I love my car, but like you, I'm down with a M4 after a couple shakedown years

Anyone have any Dyno pulls they can send me after installing a Cobb AP, or JB4 onto their stock "is"? Would like to see the comparisons on of before and after. Looking at off the shelf maps.

Installed my FMIC today and the car is running great, it also fills up the bumper pretty nicely.

How'd that go for you? I did my VRSF 7"er a couple days ago. I decided to pull the bumper cap instead of trying to cram that thing in there.

Dynoing tomorrow morning but I'm not stock although I am going to do some pulls with the stock map 4. Maybe figure 30/40 hp for downpipes and FMIC? It will be in the 40's in the morning. Perfect for a dyno day.

Should I swap out my OEM charge pipe?

I was wondering is the OEM charge pipe reliable for the extra boost our cars have, or should I swap it out with a STETT charge pipe and Tial B.O.V.?? Just want to have something reliable when I begin my engine mods later on down the road.
