Gotta say, photo winner for the cleanest looking engine bay following a Mickey Mouse flange failure. Hope this weeks tire/flange failures are done now and you can move on to enjoying the new Xenons.

When you get it, connect new cluster ot car temporarily and read the guage programming off it, then swap the faces and nicer needles over on the 328… and use perfekt to convert your 328 cluster to have temp, and install the matching stepper motor steps that the 335 cluster used on rpm and mph to correctly index the mph and tach sweep since the font and everything is slightly different on 335.

Takes a couple of hours, but beats having to try to revirginize a cluster which takes even longer amd is more of a hassle.
I bought the cluster from an '07 328i E92... https://bimmer.work/vin/p81fe7fa39c6...d5681667c4112/
It lists as an N52 and not an N51, so I'm thoroughly confused why it had oil temp. Do all E92s have that?

Do you presume I can skip the rpm/tach changes as they will be the same? And just pull the oil temp numbers?

I've been reading this thread, and should probably post question there, but here we are...

Black lines now installed,
had to replace a rear brake carrier bolt as one worked loose and disappeared.
Quick trip to junkyard and was quickly sorted.
then gave it a quick wash since temps were moderately cool and there was shade. Still need to give interior a wipe down.
Love how wet the style 95 wheels look when clean.

Love the “bone stock pre-FL interior”,
Btw just in the last interior close up pic there are at least 6 mods visible,
can you spot them all? (Aka Where’s Waldo for e9x geeks)

Yes, in that case it’s just face swap and coding the temp instead of mpg then.

Waiting on a tow. Have the aluminum flange coming in Monday - wish it was this weekend, but, well. Failed under pressure so in addition to a mess everywhere I’ll need to bleed + refill my cooling system…

People: If you haven’t changed yours yet, if it’s been a while and it’s plastic. Just change it!! Save yourself the hassle!!!

Oh. And the new headlights came in. That was going to be the project this weekend.
thank you for this post.

Just reminded me that I bought a alu flange for my N52 before my swap, and I never used it.

And my N55 is 170k km, all original, no maintenance on it but oil.

So your post buttkicked me to do the flange, and oh boi it was close,

Thank you Wasn’t too bad of a mess!

Mickey Mouse flange is in - key for reference is using silicone spray. Passenger headlight is in, drivers side soon to follow…

The Blacklines are sooooo nice... my favorite upgrade and I didn't really even know they were out there as an option!

OK, here goes (from both interior pics):
Oil temp
Velocity display
M Sport steering wheel
M Sport shift knob
Metal start button
CIC update
LCI cupholder
aluminum trim?

On way home spotted a Barrique Rot e90 in a parking lot so had to stop to take a couple pics w/ it.

It was sun faded and sunburned but very obviously BR (beige interior)

Actually it was in pretty good shape for 2006… I saw new repeaters, the lights and interior well cared for, matching tires all around… I’m guessing someone in the past didn’t have a garage. My former e46 touring now has pink inners and the clear is totally failed on roof hood tailgate etc after 4-5 years of no garage. Sun out here is no joke.

Do you by any chance know where I could find those T-shaped expanding plastic rivets that hold the door wiring harness attached to the door?

That's a 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha. Quite rare. Around 2,450 Alphas were built. Hard to tell when all the doors are open.

today I did my real 1st ''long'' strip with my N54 swapped E91.

300km in, and 300km back.

So far so good, just completed my way in.

Best I can get was 8.7l/100km (27 mpg) at 112kph (69mph).

With my other wagon, the A4 I was able (for the same trip) get to 7.8l/100km ( close to 34 mpg).

still not bad for a 6cyl.

This weekend I tackled the headlights and fog lights restoration.
I did this once last year spring however headlights did get a slight hint of yellowing that bothered me.

Originally done with Cerakote Headlight Restoration Kit.
I contacted them and explained the slight yellowing, and without any hesitation they send out another kit. They definitely stand true to their warranty.

Cerakote kit doesn't require the use of any tools, so it is all elbow grease when it comes to sanding, and I think this is where the fault lies. This time around I purchased a drill sanding kit from amazon and went to town.

There was some stone pitting so I decided to start with 800 grit > 1000 > 2000 > 3000.
This was all done with a drill and then I did another round of 3000 grit hand sanding as per Cerakote instructions "in straight back and forth motion, not circular".

After that applied the ceramic coating and lights looked beautiful.

It's not over, things get worse!

As per their instructions it says to wait a minimum of 60 minutes before driving and 24h before exposing to water.
I waited approximately close to 2 hours before needing to drive for about 20 minutes. No rain, no water, clear nice day.

I park and go to look and admire the lights and what do I see on the passenger lens...a huge bug guts splattered dead center.

- Didn't want that fully curing into the ceramic coating and I made a mistake trying to wipe it off. Needless to say that turned to a smearing disaster. Coating still had some tackiness to it so you can imagine the disaster scene.
- I then took some 99% alcohol and just wiped the whole headlight ultimately compromising the entire coating.

Contacted Cerakote this morning explaining what happened and that I was wondering if i could just buy the ceramic coating instead of the whole kit. They are sending me ceramic coating for free asap. Needless to say, amazing customer service.

So, i will be redoing my passenger headlight.
To be safe, this time around not going to drive the car for at least 24h after coating.

Also inspected my trunk wire loom as my left trunk taillight was out.
Well, the photo speaks for itself.

Would anyone know what gauge these wires are and maybe a good place to source them.?

Thank you for reading.
