Trying REALLY hard to get permission from the Mrs. It helps that she's been driving my car this weekend and can feel the CBU kicking in. Told her I need one of these and a tune to make it go away

Active tank has a heater and the line feeding up to metering valve (that's the injector) has a heater. I would drain if you can. I don't know how to purge the feed line to injector though. I'm in a place that never goes below 30F so I have only partially drained. I removed access panel on drivers side local to transfer pump and found 2 capped connectors pointing down (per TDI's post about a year or more ago). I drained about a gallon off the one furthest aft. I know there is likely another 4 gallons left. Another source advises to remove the large under cover to the passive tank and find a T fitting and disconnect it and you will be draining then. I'm can't confirm this last piece of info though. I do know the exhaust will have to be lowered down to get large passive shield removed.

jajaaj iaknown Im pretty sure he has jajajajaja thats why he no longer sells his product in here. I hv to be honest here w you I contacted Stan before many of you had done as a matter of fact it was Tdi and myself that kept him going, but when i saw what transpired between Tdi and him I knew something was fishy. Frankly speaking I felt his programming was the thing for us but I kept quetioning how can two ECUs be the same since the Euro diesel was running 286 bhp and the US version was 268 bhp? That for one I just couldnt take it you live across the pond and your programming a car w/o dynos anyway I hv been told that Stans programming was greta by Vinny Scungilli that races his DIESEl BUT it blew way to much smoke for racing. i know I have treaded on some guys but Ive come always with the truth and sometimes people dont like to hear the truth and frankly I careless I stick to my guns.

Dredging up an old one. I was looking for photos of a gutted DPF. I'm pasting in a single post link from this thread.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=99 TDI, do you have a picture of after you had this welded back up? It may be later in the thread but thread is at 117 pages (and counting). For the new guys, this thread I'm posting in is ( link above is for TDI to look at so he doesn't have to hunt) where it all started if you never came across it. There is some "excited" interchange (under statement) in here. :-) Last edited by BB_cuda; 09-08-2016 at 03:31 PM.. |

So when I just went out to take these pics, I thought it looked like all 4 sides had been cut, but my memory was I didn't fully cut it. From your link to the old post, it looks like I cut all 3 sides, and most of the 4th, but left some material there to hold the flap in place during the gutting, and then folded it closed for the shop to weld back. Did similar with the SCR, but I welded that myself, and it looks like crap. But it's held and hasn't leaked.

Just to show another way is possible, here's a pic of a no cut, no weld, gutted DOC/DPF. This was done by brute force with a long handled cement chisel and a small sledge hammer to break up the cores.
SCR can be done with a single cut and some strategic bending. Cooler temps downstream means the cut can be brazed, for those who don't weld. |

I want to keep the DOC intact. This is reason for switching from down pipe back to DPF. I will consider your method if DOC can be kept from being damaged. I like the idea of it looking unmodified. I do wish to cut off the differential pressure sensor tubes and seal off with welder.

Is there any possibility you could do some data logging on rpm/boost/EMP relationship for full fueling runs before and after? This is something I wish I would've done way back when, to be able to quantify the impact on back pressure for various stages in the delete process.

Multiple places offer downpipes with high flow "cats" welded into them, but the ones I've seen are not diesel specific oxidation catalysts, and I'm not sure how well they convert on a temperature basis. DOC's tend to be designed to light off at lower temps than gasoline cats, and the EGT's of my 335d are low during most of my driving cycle and therefore I'm skeptical of a generic cat's abilities in my scenario... I do know that the OEM DOC post DPF gutting worked pretty well for reducing smell, as I drove it that way for some time before Ecotune finished developing their US downpipe. I also know that OEM canister is a pain in the arse for removing and reconnecting, as the motor mount needs to also be removed. BB_Cuda, good luck on the install. I've pulled and installed that pig two separate times and it's no fun.

So glad this got resurrected and is taking on new life as it is starting to address some of the issues raised in my thread about deleting everything but the DPF.
The idea of keeping the OEM DOC but gutting everything else appeals strongly to me. |
