$70 is two dinner burgers and beers and a tip at a nice place.

StradaRedlands Just replaced both Vanos check valves proactively on the 2006 @ 107k miles. Removed them from above with a T40, 1”+3” extensions and lighted inspection mirror. Would have been easier going through the wheel well, but at least I didn’t have to remove anything for access.

Here’s how they looked without any cleaning. The Vanos solenoids were replaced 6k miles ago. Those solenoids looked clean too, but the car ran much better after they were replaced.
Grazie for the pics and a nudge! They will be on my to-do list!

But the water pump (probably?) went bad today in the X5, so that's going to be my new #1!

We were 50 miles from home and got the engine running hot warning. Nursed it those 50 over a couple hours, letting it cool down and lose the warning, only for it to come back after a couple miles. Monitored coolant temp on a cheap code reader, and it was right around 121C, never above 123C, so didn't fully overheat and warp the head I hope. No codes which is weird. So going to throw a VDO water pump at it and hope it's the problem.

Yeah, put a new one in 7 years ago and been great since. I only have battery charge issue between the 2 fobs, as sometimes car sits for for a while hence battery goes low combined w short drives. No issue in function and batteries new since 2 years ago. Figured you had a way to keep yours topped off as comparibly it would be a simple task compared to your other extensive and impressive electrical modifications you have done to your car. Keep it up, and enjoy reading about it.

Alright, you convinced me. I place the order! Honestly am so excited to install this radiator. Piece of art that should be visible not hidden.

Cleared the code yesterday in the TCU and so far so good, however I know it's not a fix. I'm now wondering if I'm low on fluid and causing starvation to the TCC. We'll see once I drain the trans fluid

Swapped the ABS/DSC pump assembly. Job was actually not that difficult. Saw some guys struggle to get the thing out after undoing the lines but was able to basically move lines to the side and pull it straight up.

Now just doing some small things like cleaning drain ports behind wheel wells, cleaning up lug blots and inspecting shocks which will likely be next on the maintenance list as you can see some leakage.

It snowed a couple inches while I was at the gym last night. Fresh powder on the roads. If anyone was curious, a stock 328xi 0-60 on fresh powder with WS90s is roughly the same as dry pavement

Dude, the weather over in Florida right now is almost 80 degrees. We have three types of weather here: Warm, Hot, and Hotter. Always wanted to visit Colorado. Maybe some day.....

I almost loved to Florida last year but due to unforeseen circumstances I'll be here for quite awhile. If you do, highly recommend my neck of the woods on "off season."

Wish it was 80 here right now, I'd be much more active!

Had to dig both cars out this week, before I got a chance to swap back to X-ICE tires for winter. You're not kidding, the xDrive barely flinches with all-seasons, but with the winter tires on you wouldn't even know you're driving on snow. So fun to drive, but pains me that the roads are salted again.

While I would never buy a platinum bronze metallic BMW again, the color has grown on me to the point when I'm willing to keep the car till after I finish college. At which point I will enter BMW DANGEROUS territory "Talking to you, B58, S58"

Don't expect the plastic to look good afterward; you'll need to wrap or paint it... the nail polish remover removes the soft touch coating but also discolors the plastic underneath too.

That car looks great! Without the spoiler it was a real sleeper given the mods listed in your sig. Spoiler looks good and clean too! Just not a sleeper any more.

im a relative new come,er to this scene, and slowly working thru 17 years of suspect maintenance, so this weeks task was to attack the oil filter housing assembly, it was obviously leaking but i didn't realise how much, (N52) so tick that one off, unfortunately the job dragged on as the little bleed hose on the top radiator hose broke so had to get a new top hose, and then the "mickey Mouse" flange was a cobbled up affair, so i had to replace that as well, and just water in the system no coolant grrrrr

anyway all sorted now.

hmmmm wonder what the next project will be

Ah, that’s the rub then.
“Almost” Boiling water method at least leaves base plastic looking like new.

That is 100% the way these projects work! You got lucky and didn't break your radiator trying to get the top hose off! That was my introduction to deferred maintenance!

I soaked my soft touch cup holders from e82 with rubbing alcohol and went over it with a sponge for washing dishes and it came out great. No marks no scuffs. I used the sponge side only not the more abrasive side. It might take a little more elbow grease in some spots(corners) but it was totally worth it without damaging the plastic underneath.
