It looks like you know a lot about these CAN packets format? I am on of rusEFI open source ECU guys and I would love to produce all the DME messages to have my 6HP26 happy. Any chance you could shared DDE_EGS_Gateway.cfg or anything you know on Exx DDE/EGS CAN communication?

e92 335d m57 engine 6AT (UK) EGR,DPF swirlflaps all removed with upgraded intercooler. is there a gearbox map that can be used with the above mods? |

Hi everyone! The previous links are dead.. I'm a noob but I'm interested to figure out how to tune a transmission by myself. I know about xHp but I'm wondering are their maps available? Or maybe someone has a custom tune, please? Or maybe someone saved previous files and could share, please?

Probably unlikely to get any response to an old thread like this but I'll ask anyway.
I'm hacking through the content and finding it very interesting. I'm up to page 7 so far. What I'm trying to do with my 2005 E90 330i ZF6HP19 is load the 320d map to it. The problem I'm trying to solve is that I increased the diff ratio by swapping to the differential unit from a 320d. That has been entirely successful from a mechanical point of view and I'm getting around 8mpg increase from the modification. Plus it is very quiet and comfortable with hardly any engine RPM on long steady cruising. The software program for the transmission is not happy with the differential change. 1st and 2nd gear change reasonably well with steady normal acceleration but it will hold onto third for much longer than it should and you really have to ease off the throttle a lot to encourage it to click into 4th. It'll change into 5th okay but I don't think it would ever select 6th by itself. Because of this I always drive in manual mode and do the upshifts manually. But that is getting to be a pain and I'd like it to work better by itself without me having to help it. I'm imagining that as 320d has lower rev limit and naturally comes with the differential that I've put in my 330i that if I map the transmission according to the program for the 320d it will sort out all the low rpm gearchange patterns and solve the problem. I'm not sure how it would react to a 'diesel' that can rev to 7000rpm but that's not what I'm using the car for so if it works better in low rpms at the expense of good high rpm behavior that's a trade-off I can live with... but hopefully if you're intending to rev it out and you have your foot on the floor it would just carry on to the red line.. that bit doesn't matter though. |

I'm not sure about your year car, but you can probably flash the transmission software from the 320d onto your car using winkfp or whatever flash app is appropriate for 05.

yep, I agree. That's what I'm trying to do.
I've figured out now that WinKFP is going to be the best tool for the job and watched a couple of videos of people performing the flash to their gearbox. Only thing I'm stuck on now is how to work out what is a 330i gearbox flash and what is a 320d gearbox flash. At what point in the process do you choose the file and how do you identify it? |

Much of the transmission mapping, shift points, torque converter lock up etc. are based on transmission output shaft speed and not tire rotation. Far better to tweak your original software and adjust the required parameters. Just need to change the shift points in a few shift maps. IF xhp can't do it, modify the maps and re flash using the Bimmerlabs tools for a custom GKE211 map.

So is GKE211 for earlier cars like my 2005?
The YouTube tutorials on flashing gearboxes are often pointing to GKE215 How do people know which ZB-Number and ECU family to choose? So far the only ZB-Number I know is the one for the Alpina tune because that's well documented. I think that goes onto the slightly later ZF6HP26 transmission. Mine is the earlier ZF6HP19. Is there no list anywhere showing what the different ZB-Numbers equate to in understandable specifications? I don't really know how to create custom maps. I'd be happy with the standard 320d map as it will match the diff ratio and all the shift points will be configured by BMW, which will be fine. |

Managed to work this out with some heavy googling.
So just in case anybody else finds themselves down the long ratio rabbit hole the firmware for the 320d gearbox of approximate 2005 vintage is GKE211 for the ECU family and 7564110 for the transmission. Original firmware for a 330i from 2005 is 7564078 As I predicted when I started thinking about this it cuts the rev limit down to around 4200-ish. Even if I stick it in sport manual mode it will override my decision making and change to the next gear at around 4200rpm. It's fine for what I require but in the future if I could find a way to customise a map so I can change the shift points back up to the normal red-line for a 330i that'd be fantastic. I'm very happy with the low RPM performance. It's perfect for what I intend to use the vehicle for. But I would like my normal petrol rev limit back as well... then it would be all things. |
