Can you go to the dealer and just ask for one or do you have to wait for the light to come on?

the dealer will charge you to have an oil change unless your at your maitenence mark, when the light comes on (i.e 15,000 miles).

I too wanted an oil change after break in to remove all the metal fragments in the oil. Got it done at New Century BMW. $95.

I was thinking of New Century too as that is where i got my car, but if there is a cheaper yet quality place i'd be will to go there. Plus that place is a pain to get in and out of.

You can go to the dealer but you depending on the dealer, it will either cost an arm, a leg, or both.

My place does not charge a lot at all, I can't even you an exact price because I don't know if they hooked me up or not since I was referred there, but I'm fairly confident you will be satisifed with the price and service. You can call and make an appointment. Tell Shane that I referred you (John with the 335i). Either you can bring your own oil or ask him to get you some. If you want to use the BMW oil/filter make sure you let him know.

That sucks...they should just do the first one if anything. Mercedes does the first one for free (at 1k miles), after that it's once a year, but you have to pay...

Aliso Viejo might be a bit far from you though, but the service is good and the area is easy to get in and out of. It's real close to me though. You'll probably much less than what New Century charges though. He used to be a tech at Crevier FWIW. He's the owner/mechanic there.

yea, i personally wanted to get it done at a dealer just so it would be on my record. And in case i ever want to sell the car, i can show the buyers that the car was well maintained and had oil changes regularly.

Well, BMW does all of them for free, at their schedule.

Lexus does their first one @ 5k for free.

Yup, that's why BMW > everyone else....does it make a huge difference to get the break in oil change?

In the long run...YES!!!!!

Do you have to get a oil change after break in? Nope. Will anything happen to your car in the next 3..4 years if you dont get it? Nope. Will anything happen lets say 10 years down the line? Yep.

Hmm, both of you (John & Law) have a few good points. As much as i like saving money changing at a dealer with not give BMW any excuse if anything goes wrong (not that it will with an oil change), and that it will be on the record for future sales (be awhile before that happens). I suppose if i go to New Century i can shop around and eat around the area

!!!!!

If you go, theres a REALLY good japanese restaurant walking distance. We saw the restaurant walking around looking for food, and we looked it up on Yelp.com and it had great reviews. The food is very authentic and its very nice on the wallet haha. Portions are pretty good too

I got a plate of chicken katsu + beef terryaki with soup for i think $6.

Doing the oil change at a non-dealer would just not give BMW any excuse if anything goes wrong. An oil change is an oil change, I don't think the next buyer will care if you performed an extra oil change at a dealer or not. JMO. $95 isn't too bad for a dealer, I've seen dealers charge more.

+1. I've heard of dealers charing upwards of $150. When i found out New Century was going to do it for $95, i just figured, might as well.
