Both safety and emissions inspections where I live too (although at this point, all of my vehicles are pre-2008 and therefore no longer are subject to emissions inspection. ).

But at least as far as safety inspections go, I'm all for it. There are enough chuckleheads on the roads with intact vehicles without my having to encounter that particular class of chuckleheads who choose to drive without mufflers, windshields, bumpers, functional brakes, solid floorboards, ball joints, and the raft of other stuff that is caught by annual state safety inspections.

I'm good with annual safety inspections. I came from Maryland where there are no annual safety inspections, so I well get your point about owner upkeep. But I kind of like my life, so I keep my cars in great shape mechanically.

It's just a PITA to take the time to get inspections done. When you have multiple cars, it is even more a chore. I took me over 4 hours of the day last Thursday and 160 miles of driving to get my 4 cars inspected.

Maybe. I just don't want to deal with the hassle of having to do that.

Christmas day I had a hard time getting the old girl started, kept cranking, but no start. Rested it a bit, tried again, it eventually fired up. This is my daily driver and first time with this behavior.
When it did fire up smelt burning oil and some smoke in cabin. Shut it down and went to work.
When I got home, checked it out. Popped the hood and VCG and oil filter housing both showed good size leaks.

Had done both within the last couple years so that doesn't make sense. Removed oil filler cap and it started no issue right away.
Put my hand over the oil filler hole, MASSIVE Vacuum pressure. did a bit of thinking and reading, guessed the PVC in the VCG went kaput.
Ordered new VCG, gaskets, filters and coolant.

Today, oil change, VCG change, oil filter housing change.... Long day, but now all I have to is burn off the oil that was sprayed over my cats and hopefully all is solved.
I thought she was dead for a couple days.... fingers crossed I can et another 100,000 KM out of her

I really don't have any animosity towards Floridians, it's really just the weather. I'm Nordic-Alpinian and simply genetically predisposed to cooler climates.

Well, that and the frickin' sinkholes...

Finally had a moment to myself and weather was conducive so pulled out tractors out of third bay and moved some engines around and had room to pull E91 into garage to change out crappy Mahle radiator. had the darn thing all apart except lower hose that would not budge. WD-40 wiggle and pry and nothing did not want to break it and be stranded for work Thursday. So as last resort I pulled out heat gun and warmed it slowly wiggling it here and there and then pop out it came.

Got all put back together bleed the system and looked at clock...OMG 6.5 hours for a simple radiator swap with an hour walk and lunch in that time but way to long. Let's see how long this one lasts. The Modine lasted 15.5 years the first Mahle about 1 year and 10months before it started dripping so gonna guess 18 months on this one.

MPG update: not as good as I had hoped. Back to comparing Maverick to Shell premium now that my favorite gas (Exxon) has shut down

Been sick since Saturday and yesterday was my first day back to work. Driving the car in felt great and smooth. Before you could noticed some slippage and noises from the drivetrain. Not anymore and I couldn't be happier. I did develop the dang squeak from the center strut bolt on the cowl.. It comes to haunt me every so often.. sigh..

What was that squeak like? I have a squeak under acceleration that I assume is coming from somewhere in the drivetrain due to replacing the tensioner and belt the other day.

The squeak is very high pitched and it happens when driving on uneven road. Bumps and changes in road etc. it comes from the center dash area. It is not dependent of acceleration or braking.

Ordered new tensioner pulleys for the two N52 cars I own , E91 and X3 and two conti belts. Will pull out the Vanos solenoids and the check valves and clean them as well as oil changes for both as well as Fuel filters. I have had waiting to be installed. That will be next weekend.

Oh and the dreaded hatch issues I have now, the glass opener stopped functioning on Tuesday after changing the radiator out. Love that reature so it will be diagnosed and fixed. Wished the X3 had it too.

Yep, that hatch glass option is THE BEST! The guy we bought our first E91 from didn't even know that was a thing when we popped it during the inspection!
