I was really leaning towards that. It would match my Oyster interior! And it pops but not enough to be over the top for single piston brakes. My summer wheels are ferric gray too. This looks like a great combo

That looks so good. I was thinking of upgrading to F30 brakes to have nicer looking calipers and I'm going with that color as well.

VHT natural aluminum caliper paint works great, I assume their gold would too.

Apparently its a hard color to find exact as its Brembo specific. Someone got a close match by mixing these two MINI paint codes:

Solid Sienna gold effect
B748297.
And the other.
A782560.

VHT and Duplicolor engine paint have been great to me. I'm currently looking at VHT SP132, SP736 and Dupicolor DE1604. They're both a little dark for my liking, but maybe a silver/aluminum base would be a good start

Service, MOT (annual safety test) and brake fluid change today. It’s passed but it looks like I’ll be fixing or adjusting some bits and bobs over the next 12 months.

Other day fucked up the front of the wagon with one of these funny reinforced express lane dividers Florida has been implementing. It was like 1 left on a row of taken down ones at night so I didn’t see it. Doesn’t help that I hit it at easily 90+ either.

It’s mostly fixed now will post later except for that the bumper should be repainted as the paint cracked under the ppf and might need to have more in depth plastic melting done than what I have so far but still on the lookout for a space grey hood that isn’t worn or beat to shit, seems impossible to find.

Today I replaced my crankshaft position sensor and flashed mhd stage 1+ tune. Test drove around the block and still got misfire on bank 6 took off my engine cover and got a good surprise, all index 12 lol. Now I gotta change plugs. Any local stores sell 1 step cooler plugs? Or should I just change the one with stock and cross my fingers?

So today I went ahead and acquired a 335d. I can't actually pick it up until I can escape from work for a minute.

Might have an interested party in the 325i already.

Not a bad day.

Polished and sealed all external glass with Griots Garage Fine Glass Polish and Glass Sealant. Just did them not to long ago but the Sealant bottle developed a leak at one of the seams. Figured I might as well do them again before it all leaked out.

Got rid of the hideous plastic auto shifter bezel setup with a performance shifter and someone’s shit attempt at a manual boot on auto bezel for 20 bucks.

Reworked the bezel to make it real thin and fit the boot properly to it so it sinks down into the console like on manuals, also had to take apart the shifter and put the rod from the original shifter that had less play. Probably would be 100% with a manual bezel but this is free and looks much better

Took apart CIC controller and cleaned the buttons. And released the shifter wiring from its tight stock routing to prevent future issues.

Good buy, most 335ds seem to be bare options wise

The replacement headlight I put in the car all works well, however the outer angel eyes barely light up at all. This is a common complain for e90s but this is more than the norm.

https://youtube.com/shorts/mAP08k_v1...4bNcOhhmMK-K3p

I was told to check for a break on the tube but it doesn’t seem broken at least I can’t tell. I have a headlight with a broken tube that doesn’t light that outer ring at all. All I noted was some crazing on the tube to the outer ring and this weird bubbling at the attachment point to the housing.

If I had to guess the bubbling is affecting the transparency.

Decided yesterday to go take a look at my project at the storage lot to see how it has fared the winter we had here in DFW the last couple of weeks.

Was able to easily start it even though I was told the battery goes dead after just a few days. Then on to checking the "major coolant leak" as I was told. Added proper level of coolant, let it idle for about 15-20 minutes and observed no leaks. Hence, decided to take it for a ride to see what happens. It sorely needed a wash anyway.

Did a self-service wash first with just a bunch of soap from the gun and pressure washed it off. Then took it to another wash to run through brushes and such and used their towels and other products to done drying and additional cleaning. Came out pretty good. Has some clear coat issues on hood/roof/trunk, but I don't think it's anything detrimental. At least not all of it. Hoping to be able to revive most of it. Just needs some elbow grease and good products.

Drove it around 20 some miles and still found no coolant leaks and the level was still the same in the expansion tank after I came back. Even the area around the temp sensor on the lower coolant hose that showed bunch of moisture around it last time I drove it was completely dry. Maybe the temp sensor O-ring wasn't leaking, after all. Go figure, but I'll take it.

Maybe my zero dollar E92 was a good investment after all. Will dig more into the leakage topic once I can get it home and the weather starts to cooperate. Not digging the freezing temps we're having here in DFW.

And yes, had my co-pilot with me as you can see from the last pic.

Today I sold it:
Sad day for me as I will be carless until the summer and there will be an empty space for the first time in 20 years where I had a car next to my wife's SUV.

I will always believe the E90 generation is the last great years of the BMWs that you could own, fix yourself, and add a good amount of modifications. I went to the dealership today to see what was in the pre-owned lot and new car lot and nothing moved me to buying. I am no longer a fan of the BMW brand.

If I do buy another BMW I believe the 2018-2024 540i xDrive seems like a next buy for me if I get into another BMW. If i don't go back to a BMW I would do a Porsche Macan Turbo GTS (lease only if I have cash to waste), or a Tesla 3 or Y (likely a lease. My kids want me to get one), or a Subaru Wagon (would be cheap beater buy for my toddlers to trash). The Lexus mid-size sedans are also looking reliable and affordable so I may check them out as well.

It was fun being part of the E90 community and I will be back here. I still have to publish my rear electric sunshade retrofit modification video and a few other mods and repairs I've done lately to my E90 before sale.
