IS IT WORTH IT?

Just kidding, I know what it's like to want to do a mod just for the hell of it and because you can. Cool move.

WOW! I thought roof swap would involve a lot of chopping & re-welding. From the pics it looks like its just one big jigsaw puzzle that screw into place?

Carbon roof & silver car - Awesome combo.

Thanks buddy.

Yup true. It's just a panel at the end of the day spot welded in for the metal roof and bonded for the CF one. A lot more simple than you think lol.

Finally got the completed pics after collecting her on Friday.

Nice sunny day to show off the roof in all its glory. Unfortunately it was a little dirty though.

So here we go:

I'm properly pleased with the look and the job completed. Had the shark fin and side strips done gloss black at the same time.

Also at the same time as the rear screen had to be removed I figured it was an excellent opportunity to fit a genuine rear privacy glass screen as I didn't like the thought of the tint on the large dot matrix area LOL.

You can can see it here and gives a quick teaser to the next mod that was completed on Tuesday:

Thanks,

Raj.

Raj, first of it's kind - I love it!! I'd love to have gone the OEM Rear windscreen and not to tints to avoid patchy areas around dot matrix but never knew this was possible 3 years ago being new to mods, but hats off to you man!

Excellent mod and it's looks so sharp right now!

So as you can see from the last pic that I took a trip up to Darren Wood on Tuesday to finally get the Wagner decat pipes fitted. They have a good rep and were knowledgeable over the phone before I went up. Also their pricing is excellent for the workmanship and actual time spent.

They had a couple of nice Z3M's in and a couple of M5's too.

Anyway on to the pics:

Just starting to remove everything including the Akra:

Removed in just under 1.5 hours:

Akra removed too for DP removal:

Old v new:

In place and ready for the Akra to be refitted:

Didn't get a chance of a finished pic as my son was hungry lol.

But all I can say is it's certainly a very nice improvement in both sound and turbo spool up.

Not sure what's next lol.

Thanks bro. Appreciated. Certainly takes a different mindset to remove a perfectly good roof lol.

Need to sort the rims for sure and get the brakes on. Cosmetically I'm pretty much done I think.

There's never a finish line HAHAH. Not upgrading to M3 interior or a retrim to current?

When are the BAD BOY Brakes going on?

PMSL I'll update the thread title

Cheers though. I love the contrast against the Silver. Decats mean a lot quicker spool up for sure. Noise is insane lol. Proper deep.

Ah now this is nice....Roof wise Raj, what can I say, it was a brave move for sure to take it on but seems to fit in just nicely and look wise I'd suspect you've achieved that factory OEM finish. It's one of the more unusual dare I say risky mods, which is good to see and very admirable for taking it on

Now those downpipes interest me, from what I can see they look like they are easier to route giving a little more access than my VRSF pipes, which for those fitting is a blessing.

Hi Raj,

I just picked up an M3 roof and I will try to fit it myself. With the lighter weight of the roof and the lighter weight of my wallet the car's centre of balance will be significantly lower

I'm wondering if it is really necessary to strip our the roof liner. (?) Maybe its easier to get the spot welds on the cross brace, but I reckon I could get them off without internal access. Is there any reason you know of as to why the roof liner needs to come off?

Cheers, Richard

Cheers Steve. I agree wholeheartedly it was a brave move. I was very unsure tbh BUT after Tin did the same with his 135i and a new roof from Geoff Steel Racing I figured sod it. In all honesty I bought the first roof before I bought the car LOL.

Mucho Gracias as its always nice to have nice words said about the time and effort that goes into a project. Yours too is impressive. I like to do as much myself as possible to be fair.

As per PMs Richard I'll help where I can but tbh there may not be a real need. But for ease of access and wiring for the Bluetooth module etc would be a couple of reasons.
