What's your point? Do you want your fogs to be yellow? 3000k is like the lowest temperature you can go....yellow color, highest output. The higher you go in temperature, the "whiter/bluer/purpler" (in that order) they get in color but as you go higher, the light output decreases...meaning that you can't see as far. For fogs, you want the most visibility....or at least that's what your suppose to do. The temp you have now gives you the most visibility. Nowadays people match their fogs with their xenons/angel eyes which is purely for aesthetics and kinda defeats the purpose of having fogs.

I wonder if anyone would be interested in a kit containing ballasts, mounting hardware, capacitors preassembled inline with no wires showing and their choice of bulb temp? 4700uf for e90 and 10,000uf for e92.

Or perhaps a 55w hid kit with projector foglight housings?

Well I got my non-slim kit installed (without caps) and for under 50 bucks shipped, it's definitely worth it. Output is pretty nice but the color leaves a bit more to be desired. I opted for 3000k for improved visibility in fog/rain and although it reflects yellow on the ground and walls, they still look a bit white looking at them straight on. Certainly not as yellow as the OP's pics. I may just wrap my housings in yellow lamin-x and call it a day.

As for the errors, I did get two or three fog errors and strangely some exterior bulb errors the first few days of operation. After that they seem to have all but disappeared. Srsly. I ran them almost the entire time on a drive from NorCal to Las Vegas and I didn't get a single error on that trip.

My 09 E91 (LCI, xenon) has 10000uF 25V on the left and 4700uF 35V on the right (blew the 10000uF by not paying attention to polarity and Shack only had 4700uF). Here is the thing: when i turn on the aux and then the fogs, I got a code on the 4700 side. But when I turn on the headlight and then the fogs, both were fine and no code thrown. Also has anyone tried 16V instead of 25/35V? I am afraid the extra voltage may not be good for the circuitry long term. Anyone with EE background or expert in circuit design?

yo, there's a place in santa clara just down the street from jlevi called anchor electronics. the caps were under 2.00 each.

my EE roommate helped me install the caps. he said they were fine. just as long as the caps are rated above what the battery/alternator pushes out or something.

It looks confusing because you see the bulb in the picture but it is only there because the bulb is fed through the rubber boot with all other wires. The connection for the bulb is to a seperate set of output wires from the ballast. The plug that is shown in the picture after the capacitor plugs into the ballast but the capacitor is between that plug and the oem BMW plug. Sequence goes as follows: OEM Bmw Plug , Capacitor , Plug to ballast , seperate ballast output bulb plugs. Hope this helps

Looking back through the thread guys with E92's are using 10000uf/25v caps. I also read that some guys have had success using two 4700uf caps, but me personally I would just stick with the one 10000uf cap.

Side note: I saw on page 3 that you must make sure the polarity is correct otherwise the cap with explode.

the bmw harness is reversed from most of the harnesses used. makes sure the black wire from the capacitor wiring is connected to the brown wire from the car harness. the capacitor also MUST be wired in correctly, with the (-) side connected to the black wire. you can usually extract the pins from the aftermarket harness and flip them that way.


electrolytic capacitors will boil over and pop if hooked up in reverse.

my DDM ballasts work perfect with the 10000uF 50V capacitors i got from ebay. cost was about 6 bucks for a pair.

I did this mod on my 2007 bmw x3 and i used the 10000 25v capacitors. The fog lights comes on, but they go off and the burn light indicators still comes on....any ideas??

Did they fix the harness polarity for newer E90's (2011 for example) ?

Once I get my car, I might just buy a handful of capacitors and let my shop test it out trial-and-error style.

I've had 6000k lows and 4500k fogs on my Altima and was thoroughly pleased with the output / reliability. Hence, this thread got my attention pretty fast. I'm not going to touch the OEM xenon's but will play around with the 3000k fogs.
