Also if you're going with upgraded turbos, a larger core is necessary.
What is the weight difference? When you guys mean trimming its the bumper right??

You don't actually touch the painted bumper, you trim the black plastic shroud that's fixed to the car behind the bumper. A couple of inches need to be trimmed off but most people just cut the entire thing off down the sides which takes less than a minute.

Very easy if you have a reciprocating saw or dremel.

So if Im not mistaken here, when installing the 7" FMIC on an e92 (I also have a m3 rep bumper) you don't have to take off the bumper? Why do I see other DIY pics and such showing/stating that you do? Thanks for any input!

It makes it easier for some to take it off, it could theoretically done with the bumper on.

It'll line back up as well as it did previously as long as you re-install it correctly.

Personally I remove it for installs, it's just easier.

I just installed the 7" recently and made sure all clamps are tight and sealed but I'm getting a slight whistle when at WOT....could this be normal due to the larger core and more airflow?

The easiest way to diagnose a boost leak is to do a pressurized boost leak test.

If you're not leaking boost you're probably just hearing a more pronounced turbo whistle.

Turbo's need to work harder to maintain boost in a 7" vs the 5" - typically you'd see slightly higher duty cycle for the same boost PSI, are they whistling all the time like crazy or just on WOTs, one quick boost leak visual check is oil, see if you have wet IC / CP connections etc, hows the performance do you feel it more sluggish ???

Installed my 7" and everything fit back together perfect. Can't wait to see it with the M3 style front installed.

hit it on the head, the sound will be a bit more pronounced through the IC but there is also a lot more area for the turbos to boost compared to stock, so its gonna take a bit more work from the turbos then usual to fill that space, thus the whistle is mor pronounced. Generally speaking though, you will get more noise from an Ic cause the sound resonates of metal, and isnt really absorbed as plastic would do..to a point atleast...

if the car isnt runnign sluggish via butt dyno your good, if it does, do the oil check in IC piping...

Front bumper needs to be removed and intercooler shroud needs to be trimmed. No need to remove radiator support.

No need to remove the front bumper but a big yes to trimming the shroud if the I/C is the 7" version.

+1 that is correct. Just installed a 7" couple of days ago no need to remove the bumper or fascia.

It is very easy to install on a lift with the bottom cover off or on jack stands.

That's my question, does the 7 inch with stock turbo's rob performance?
