I dont have raw data for that, but I believe it's better to not have a cover at all.

injectors and coils packs can benefit of an colder environment.

I have high mileage N52 and N55 and both are bone stock OEM parts. specially n55, it's impressive how nothing failed 'yet'.

on my n54 i removed the foam, and get a N57 air duct that move air around the passenger side.

The button? Or CarPlay?

Mine is looking okay from 10 feet. Washed it yesterday. Working on refinishing an e92 M3 roof.

Technically yesterday evening. I washed them both before the next big windy sand blowing Haboob comes thru later this week. Took the pictures this afternoon.

We almost just jumped in f31d and drove 3 hours (240 miles) to Monaghan’s Tx just to go to one of the last 6 Bennigans for St Paddy’s. Decided not to after all, but I do miss Bennigans on St Paddy’s.

Is the coupe the same? I have one from my E92. It probably is not (looks similar). I'll have to check.

Well it was yesterday but I washed the car. 1st time in a month. (I get too busy or the weather is bad)

Was nice outside when I washed it.

Poured down rain 4 hours later. Figures.

It's not being kept in the Garage yet. 500sl still in there but it will be moving to the shop once my son's Mustang is out of the shop. He's currently in Marines Boot Camp. Not sure if he'll be taking the car before or after infantry training. Soon.

Also left rear tire started loosing air. Had to air it up twice yesterday and once today.

I go in at 8:15 tomorrow for new tires anyway so perfect timing in a way.

Can't speak for the N54/N55, but that's exactly what BMW did when they added DI to the N52 to make the N53.

Foam under the N53 engine cover (11127575035):

Compared to just plastic N52 cover (11127575032):

I always wanted to do a retrofit but wasn't sure about heat retention, fitment/interference or how to ensure the foam/adhesive would hold up to the engine temperatures.

Got around to switching out the parcel shelf. It also had better speakers? I like the tie downs better and I also deleted the center seatbelt.

Painted the C pillar while I was at it. Didn’t realize they were plastic.

New tire day.
Replaced the old, DWS front (pre 06) date stamped 2015, and the rear DWS06 (not +) dated 2018 with Michelin Pilot 4S. Wanted the Conti Sport Contact 2 but back ordered for a month in the 255/35-18 size. Bummer. Still got a great tire.

Immediately from the tire shop drive 60 miles to work. Then another 60 to my Tuesday night Pub Run, then another 10 home.

Initial feedback. Really smooth in comparison to almost decade old Continentals. For whatever that's worth.

The few corners I've been able to hit without traffic so far have been so much better. There is still some under steer, but not nearly what it used to be.

Car handles great once it settles down. And there is now the new issue. Tires out performing the suspension. At 14 years and now 89k miles, yes almost 3k in 2 months, I expect the shocks are not in prime condition. And it shows if there are any undulations in a corner. Let's just call it the pogo effect.

Guess it's time to start the suspension investigations.

And rabbit holes being what they are, might as well do something that can be tracked but is liveable on the street.

Feel free to suggest what has worked for you. I would appreciate it.
Still going to research every detail, but the Butt Dyno is a good metric IMO.

Damn these slopes are slippery.

The rear shocks (struts) are easy if you have the tools. Are yours leaking oil? I did Sachs OE with the FCP euro mount/ bump stop kit. A 3 hour $300 project.

As Overdosed stated I think it retains too much heat but I'm wondering if by removing the foam and just do a couple layers of sound deadening it would be less bulky and thus allowing some small form of airflow or heat release from under the beauty cover. I also did the cowl delete so I'm sure the air flow over the cowl area pulls the heat out from under the hood and keeps temps lower.

Those ties downs are much nicer! Are they out of an LCI car?

No wonder injector noise is an issue then. The cowl seals against the hood and blocks a lot of noise.

And the bottom of the windshield is a high pressure area at speed so it would pressurize the engine bay if not sealed off. This would reduce the effectiveness of the radiator, intercooler, etc. Heat would only escape when the car is stationary.

Eg:
