When a EV vehicle or electric bike fire is involved it should be common knowledge that it will do far more damage than a gasoline fire which can be brought under control quickly with foam or water.
EV fires take a long time to put out because of the chemical reaction of the battery internals and will always cause far more risk to property and life.

'There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics'.

Wonder just how many Non EV's there are in service vs the number of EV's. You don't think that could effect the ratio of vehicles that burn to the ground? Also wondering which group travels the most miles and the average age for the respective fleets?
Just asking for a friend.

Oh sure, you're going to use common sense to argue.

There are over 1 Billion cars on the road globally, how many are ICE, how many are EV's. Of course ICE cars burn, they have since they were first on the road. But what percentage of car fires are EVs vs ICE and how serious are those fires ?

A quick Google search for EV service centres in Toronto, the 4th largest city in NA and only a handful of places come up that can service EVs.

I thought the car fire that is this thread has finally fizzled out, but guess like an EV fire it just keeps going and going and most fire department don't have the right tools to fight them properly

All cars catch fire, lets just get that out of the way, that's neither a win for ICE nor EV.

I agree that all types of cars can catch fire and I don't know if it's an actual issue with respect to EVs. But the challenge to put these fires out is clearly a concern for Fire Depts.

While an EV fire does take a long time to go out, it doesn't spread like the gasoline truck I was referencing earlier either, so there are issues with gasoline being trucked around everywhere too. Not every EV technology will have that same vulnerability.

Is anyone in this thread actually worried about EV fires? I can't imagine any of you guys not letting your friend with a Tesla Model Y park in your garage in real life.

Gasoline trucks are not parked next to your house or in your driveway.

You don't know the level of mental gymnastics some people will go through to reaffirm some arbitrary position they hold.

I won't. A Tesla in the house is a sign that I've lost my sense of taste and sight and lost my will to live..I won't become a musk minion.

You would be wrong, Good thing I had an HD extension cord for my friend.
I'm not too happy about the LiPo battery in my M4 CS.

There are lots of things to fear. You've got yours. It's lithium batteries. That's fine.

My company sells LiPo and LiFe batteries. I know a lot about them. I don't fear them but I'm also am not in the habit of taking unnecessary chances. We inspect every battery once a month for puffing. We keep a pail with supersaturated saline solution to neutralize the bad batteries prior to disposal. I keep two 2 35lbs pails of sand to pour over batteries that catch fire. So hell no I will never own a EV for that reason alone. More importantly, I'm as much of an environmentalist as I can afford to be and I find EV's to be an environment nightmare and a distraction from proven technologies that will make a difference in clean air, water and soil.

You’ll have anti ev people say yes because to them ev is a threat to their passion in ICE.

Then you’ll have actual ev owners with great real world experience who will say no, but then the anti ev people will say we’re saying no because we’re puppets.

Let time dictate reality. Can’t wait for 2030!

That is a very awesome question. I’ll answer it for you. I absolutely would not. In fact, I would not let the electric car be within 15’ of any structure on my property. I hope this helps you.

I watch videos by Matt Watson all the time. I’m sure you guys do as well. I’ve never seen him destroy a car like this. Holy crap. Honestly I’m a little bummed out with Elon on this one. The build quality of this thing is atrocious. Kia has better quality control. Anyway watch his video. Putting this car in to drive is a pathetic joke.
