Hi Stevie....
That's interesting. A lot of people have said how much smoother it is. Maybe it's the increased fuel pressure that reduces the clatter and perhaps that's what they did with the 177ps as that's almost clatter-free (the one I borrowed was anyway). It really does seem like the only downside is increased insurance costs! |

My New Spider Tuning Box
My new spider tuning box came today for my 320d (163bhp).
For people that are interested it was a peace off cake to install. I have included some photos(sorry only phone pics). I have only driven 10 miles with it installed and wow it is such an improvement in powha! Time will tell how it gets on but i will let you know. Up in brumy land monday so will give me a chance to test it. Btw they have a January offer on at the moment with £50 off. Next job to sort my wheels out and then next uprate the braking. |

So what is the BHP meant to be now Mac mate? Least you felt an instant improvement.
Any more noticeable lag? does the 320d have any lag as standard? Also what wheels and brakes you after buddy?

Cant remember..but i think if you nail it from the off of fitting itll adapt to this style. It then takes around 60-100 miles to settle in ,then it feels different again.
NAIL IT lol |

Lag is strange on the ED 177 bhp model as its very linear but the box makes it feel less laggy but still maintains that BMW linear feel. I had a revo PD150 Golf once and although it was around the 195bhp mark it used to give the impression it was revving like a bitch with a very small rev/torque band, this is complete opposite but quicker. |

Ment to be 195bhp. The instructions do say not to go over 4000rpm for 50 miles so havnt floored it yet. IMO there isnt much lag as standard on 320d and from what i drove today it is pretty smooth up the power with the spider fitted.
The braking im looking into is the BMW performance ones, read good things about them. Wheels im looking at are the 18"MV3's, if i cant find a good used set im thinking about new 19" 216's or the newer performance ones. Perhaps ill start a poll t which ones to get! Mac |

Didn't Evolve do a rolling road with a Spider fitted and it came out at 205BHP or near enough?
I love my Spider but am thinking of getting a full remap (after Alpine upgrade!). The power delivery low down is not as good as a full remap but mid range is fantastic. |

Hey monkey...it does make it smoother and less laggy and it does improve the mpg if you want it too.
Ring Mike up at Spider and just do it man...you wont regret it. I dont use mine enough to be honest lately but it does make it a different car. |

Hi Budgie...
I'm close, really close! Just two things worrying me still - 1) does it affect the service interval calculation? 2) the fact that it's going to up the insurance cost (but I can live with that!) Can you (or anyone else) who's had these sufficiently long verify whether the variable service is affected by these boxes? |

To answer your questions
1) No, my service light just came on at 19800 miles 2) not by much most people's insurance goes up £20-£100 ish I have had mine since 1000 miles and nothing has been affected at all. Just more power |

Do you guys remove the Spider when your car goes in for service or don't the dealers care less???

Mine went back tody after 12 months, I had heavy engine judder and excess smoking on start up. Having driven the car 100 miles today I can honestly say there was no difference. When I 1st installed there was a huge difference which led me to beleive there is a problem with my unit.
SO will see how good the customer service is now and report back, hopefully will get a replcement / reprogrammes unit back ASAP. WIll keep you informed. |
