Dmanb2b, I did same as Greck but several years ago. I used silver rustoleum. I used rust eater with tooth brush on the rust first. There is a little portion of caliper outside face that was equally rusty. I treated it in similar way too. The paint hasn't discolored from heat as it's the central portion of hub. It is time to clean the hubs and do a little touch up painting. The center of the rear hubs gets nasty rusty. I cleaned it and liberally applied axle grease to try to stop the rust. This is where a large nut is in the center of hub. You will see what I mean.

Did this help keep the rims from getting welded on to the car? I'm a little tired of having to ninja kick the rims of my bmws. Both the X5 and he d seem to like to weld their rims onto the car. I've been doing a lot of suspension work and repairs on the X5 and it would be nice to make it easier to take the wheel off.

Use this on the hub face, you'll never have a problem again.

Thanks Cuda...this will be my next cosmetic mod, when the winter wheels come off. Currently shopping for a summer set of staggered wheels. We are expected to get 10" of that white fluffy stuff tomorrow, so salty wet roads have had fun trying to stay attached to the car and my rotors. Rear brakes are squeaky as heck backing up in morning, yet my pads seem to have plenty of "meat" left on them. I try to hit the carwash once a week where they have a hand held pressurized hot water gun to wash the salt off. Squeak goes away after this for a few days, but the rotors are definitely getting discolored.

Inxguy...thanks for the tip on hub lubricant...I almost spit my coffee out of my mouth, laughing, while reading Castle's comment about ninja kicking the wheels off the hubs...been there, done that

Speaking of rims...anyone have a set of 193Ms you are looking to offload? If so, hit me up via PM.

Castle, the central protrusion from the hub is what sticks to the wheel. I have axle grease on them and am able get them off. I shared your difficulty until I started putting the grease on it (and don't put it on often now). It's not an everytime you take the wheel off thing. Got a grease gun?

Bought One!

Well, Monday, actually.

It's a late 2011 with just about every option but Nav and the Sport Package. Pretty much equipped as I would have if I wanted to spend over $50K on a 3-series five years ago. Two owners, clean CARFAX, dealer serviced since new.

Selling dealer replaced the adblue tank, and I'm working with a NOX sensor fault that may require they replace the front sensor, too.

Dealer wanted to replace three tires, but I convinced them to ditch the run-flats and put Conti Extreme Winter S1s on the slightly curbed OE wheels. I'm looking for new wheels and summer tires.

Transmission service and tune to come shortly. Emissions will remain intact...for now. And it'll need brakes in the Spring, most likely.

I haven't driven it much, but so far I like it. Even the automatic. Many more features than my old TDIs. That will take some getting used to.

Welcome aboard! Check out Apex wheels for decent priced, good quality wheel. I searched for weeks and couldn't find a wheel that I like more for the price. Sure, getting 513m's from a newer M3 would have been ideal, but I was getting inpatient and the prices were going up.

Tune your car and gut the emissions, you will be glad you did

I've already learned a lot here. However, sizing photos for upload wasn't one of them, not right away. Got it now.

I have the non-sports model with square setup (non-staggered) 17" wheels. I use those for my winter tires. Early on I bought 18" Apex ARC-8 wheels. Very happy with them. And they are roughly 9 lbs lighter per wheel.

Did you end up with a square or staggered setup for summer tires? I'm trying to decide what's best.

Greck - I'll paint my rotors and calipers once the weather warms a little.

I love those wheels BTW. Have you ever thought about powdercoating them?

Just in case you are in the market. Apex is running a group buy on both the EC7 and ARC8 in the vendor forum.

I am currently signed up for a staggered set of EC7s, which end today. Prefer the wider wheel/tire in the rear to put down power.

I'm strongly eyeing the ARC-8s in 17" square. Going down to 17" square would save money on tires and give me the ability to rotate, meaning I could essentially double the savings since I double the tire life of my tires. Only issue being the ARC-8s are expensive. Hopefully when the time comes I can scoop up a used set for a good price. If not I may just grab the Alzor style 030 in 18x8 square.

Yup, certainly a plus for a square set-up, especially in 17"you can get a set of Conti DW in 225/45 17 off tirerack right now for less than $400 shipped. That is nuts for a performance tire.

The crazy thing about running 225/45R17 tires on this car is that is the exact same size tire my Jetta TDI had, but the D is pumping out almost double the torque and horsepower. I may take my car to he track 2 times a year, and it's a fun run at the drag strip. Certainly not anything I need big tires for.

Yeah, not sure what size VW considered standard on a 17" rim, but my '12 Jetta had 205/55R16's. I went to an 18" aftermarket wheel with a bit more aggressive offset in 225/40R18 and it transformed the car.

I'm finding a 225/45R17 in the rear of an illiterate car a little un-nerving. My winters in that same size light up the traction control light at 70mph, on dry pavement

Once I go to 18" I am going to probably going to stick a 275 or at least a 265 size tire on the rears.

You say unnerving, I say exciting. I'm just having issues finding a tire and wheel size that won't throw my speedometer off. I need to see if I can reprogram my speedometer with my NT510 tool.

Last night I gave my SGM a deep clean, clay, compound, polish, and then sealed it with Griots One-Step Polish and Sealant. Will probably throw on a coat of synthetic wax tonight as well. I can't seem to get all of the swirls form the first 3 owners out, but it looks considerably better than when I bought it. Now to cover up the nasty clear coat failure on my wheels.
