The chance of a warped crank journal is what kept me away from rebuilding mine.

If the crank turns out to be no good you might as well just hunt for a used motor since a new crank cost $1600. A decent N55 shortblock can be found for <$4k. I chose to just buy a new crank and put in forged internals rather then take a gamble on a used motor. I am close to $5k into it doing all the work myself and paying to have the block bored and inspected. Finding out the crank was bad really blew the budget on the build. This is only for the mains, not the rods- which are typically the ones that get hurt.
I hope you have a good experience with MMP- I'm kind of baffled how your car is there, since he doesn't own a shop and outsources his engine work to a shop- but hey, good luck! ![]() |

Thought I'd share some good results from Blackstone:
Universal averages show typical wear levels for an N55 after about 4,400 miles of oil use. Compared to those, your metals are reading fairly low and in a healthy balance, which is what we'd expect from a healthy engine that hasn't been modified in the slightest. Considering I am running Pure 2, Port injection, and 22 + psi, I am good with it. Now if MFactory can sort out my differential, warranty bolt shearing issue, I am good for now. |

There are now several brands of aftermarket rod bearings shells in +1/2/3 sizes. There is no reason to use BMW's bearings and color codes when cutting a crank to fit.

I could've had the motor back in the car 2 weeks ago. Now I am waiting on a Pure Stage 1 to arrive... "expedited shipping" has turned into 2 week shipping lol maybe longer since it still isn't here. Oh then I shattered an oil squirter bolt torquing it back into the block. Not exactly a part anyone has lying around. I've gotten the idea out of my head that I'll be back in this car this summer :/ Last edited by bbnks2; 08-24-2018 at 09:18 AM.. |

That's ridiculous lol Our N55 head flows nearly identical numbers as our N54 head, and they make 650hp at 23psi, and over 800 at 30. We run out of octane with 93 at 16-17psi, vs a stock head at 19 on a single turbo. A stock head makes 650hp at 30psi, for reference ![]() |

i dont need to explain volume efficiency and how a (correctly) ported head benefits practically any engine, there's countless google topics you can read up on that.
But any time you help stop a bottleneck, it helps overall. |

MMP probably meant more that with the airflow of a PS2 and the power goals that it's not exactly the best or most necessary bang for your buck option.

Your experience sounds very typical. If they are deceiving people on something as simple as injectors are the expensive parts you specified and paid for (parts you cannot see) actually going in your engine?
