I messed around with a sunroof cassette in an E36 for a similar issue years ago and it was so fiddly. I have a slight sag in one of my E91s, good to know there is at least a DIY out there. I've read of some folks just replacing the complete assembly.

Appreciate the info and link to the DIY!

Sunroof cassette in an old roommate's e83 went off track probably 10 years ago, and when we tried to fix it, it got worse. He checked with the dealer and a couple of shops and was quoted between 1500 and 3500 to repair it, so he decided rather than risking fiddling with it more, he got it close enough and added packing tape.

Working on my 2009 e91's sunroof, lots of little bits of plastic were found broken off around the glass panels in the track.

I guess just be careful.
I managed to get mine to close with a *lot* of encouragement and a much dirtier headliner, and rescued the cassette from my '07 to install in the spring.

So here's my question: I've seen the numbers posted on here for M-sports in the US...I realize they're rare. But is 13k really a realistic number for an automatic with 94k (or 104k...we still have not clarified on this example)?

BAT is usually a good indicator, although with any auction we see people get emotional and prices drive higher than they normally might go. That space grey automatic m-sport example about a month ago went for 17500 but to me, that was justified as it had only 39k and was overall very clean. Just this week, the non-m sport e91 from the NE with a 6MT went for over 19k with 79k miles on it...also low mileage for being almost 10 years old.

That being said, curious to hear the group's thoughts on what is a realistic price for a M-sport 6MT - whether RWD or Xdrive...doesnt matter to me. I live in a snowy climate, so my past two 6MT M-sports were both X-drive, but have an e90 M3 now and know these cars handle great with RWD and a good set of winter tires. I mean, we would all love to find the perfect manual e91 with 50k give or take, for which I think many of us would pay a premium...but what would that be? We all saw that LMB m-sport on EAG for the better part of a year...a prime example, but 40k?! Too rich for me.

Just curious to take the group's pulse...I would certainly think that for all but the most prime example, even a premium price is not going to start with a '3'.

Nailed it on the head - BaT auctions generally showcase cars that are presented professionally and folks go a little crazy. I enjoy my E91 and the price I paid is a huge part of that MT > MSport > RWD

The sport package's most valuable asset is the seats, steering wheel and cosmetic exterior changes. The suspension is moot on the AWD and easily replicated with a competent Bilstein setup.

Personally any AT example is worth less to me, namely the cost of an MT swap less (AWD is a different boat here). It is a great platform, however the biggest sellers to me are the engine, steering and row your own involvement. I have sampled the MT/AWD, AT/RWD/Msport and AT/AWD variants.

Values are highly subjective, but I do think sellers are trying to capitalize on a recent rise in interest for the platform. I got in for $13K, anything past $20K and I would be looking for an F31.

A mid-mileage Automatic from a snowbelt state......13k.

So realistically - can you even find a shop willing to do a manual swap?
For a manual swap on a RWD - assuming you find a shop to do it - how much $ are we talking?

There are some threads on here that break down the parts list, but my biggest hesitation to looking at that option is resale. If the trend continues, prices on an OE 6MT will be bulletproof, but swaps tend to get less money, so you're looking at less than you put in, certainly if you pay labor to do it. Might as well pay a premium for the OE car, continuing the cycle of crazy prices.

I think there is some truth to your statement, basically saying it is better to maintain originality. We have seen evidence of that on BaT a few times with these wagons, especially with M-Sport and MT. In my case I don't have anything special -- e91 RWD sport with AT and average miles (131k+). My plan is a swap to MT when the AT fails. I might do the 3IM, and I'll probably swap to a nicer front bumper next summer. Doing 193 wheels in a month or two. I know I won't get back my money on these mods, but the car is a daily driver for me meant to keep wear off my other cars.

That's where I still wrestle with the idea myself. Mine will also be a daily, splitting duty with a bike and another car. Primarily, it'll be for when we need to take the dogs and kid somewhere. Resale is just secondary, but still something to consider when trying to justify paying a premium now. Note, I also said I am trying to justify it, haha.

I have a lift at home, so the AT/MT swap is seriously tempting, especially with the dry market right now rwd 6MTs. The biggest hurdle is my wife - she very reasonably wants me to finish one project before starting another.

F31's are nice cars but you miss the involving bits of inline 6, rwd, third pedal.

People (including me!) paid or are are paying the premium for the involvement. That said I'm looking at adding an F31 to the stable since our objectives for this vehicle are different.

I wouldn't sell my RWD/6MT/M Sport with 65k miles for anything less than $30k. An E90 M3 or E82 1M are the only vehicles remotely tempting to replace it. Seeing a plane Jane x-Drive 6MT with 80k miles go for $20k, yet again keeps the bar high. I love my car and it's one of two E91s I have currently.

Man, $30k? Is that really the market value for MSports or is that just your number? Just curious as I've been tracking a local one with a little less miles but AWD.

AWD is less rare and less desirable for those of us without snow, in my view.

30 is the number I'd place on it based on comp sales of vehicles I see as less desirable, i.e. the recent BAT sale with higher miles, no sport package, x-Drive, etc. I've only seen one other 6MT/RWD/ZMP for sale in the last year which the LeMans Blue with lower miles at EAG for $40k. Mine has no paintwork or stories, no rust, etc.

I bought my Sport Package automatic for less than $10k. There isn't an added $20k worth of value between my two cars. They both have the same trunk, same sports seats, same engine. The rarity is what drives the higher price. There is a much lower cost of entry if you want all the M Sport bits and don't mind buying and painting some bumpers and swapping in a headliner.

All that said, I'm not looking to sell. I'm looking to add to my stable, not remove from!

As much as I love EAG crop of vehicles in their inventory on an annual basis, I wouldn't say they are the market value. I totally understand "what the market will bear" and what someone is willing to pay (premium). But I wouldn't use there $40k example as a real data point, if anything it's an outlier. I would consider BaT sales to be more indicative of the market value. I haven't been following them on BaT, but good information to know. The one I am tracking is LeMans Blue/Black, 54k miles, 6MT, AWD, MSport. In my opinion I wouldn't pay $30k for it, but maybe that's what the seller would want to let it go. I paid nearly half that for my E90 M3 with every service record since mile 1.

Anyone know if the msport black headliner/trim is still dealer-available?

I personally don't care about resale, hence my $6000 102k auto/awd/non-sport to which i added sport, and will be putting in 3IM/bilsteins this coming month.
